Box Score BROOKHAVEN, NY—Despite three goals from
Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team dropped its season opening game to Dowling College, 15-6, on Wednesday afternoon. It was the first game for new Huskies head coach Mallory Poole.
The Huskies got on the board first when
Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) scored on an assist from
Kelsey Metzler (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) just 1:19 into the game. After the Lions tied the game 11 seconds later, Mazzie put Bloomsburg back on top when she scored with
Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim/Springfield) getting the assist with 27:41 left in the half.
Dowling then rallied scoring five consecutive goals to lead 6-2 with 7:42 left in the half. Bloomsburg broke the scoring run when
Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) scored unassisted before the home team ended the half with back-to-back goals to lead 8-3 at the break.
The Lions began the second half with two goals before Mazzie scored with
Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) getting an assist. Dowling made it 12-4 with two more goals before Mazzie scored her third goal with Metzler getting her second assist. Dowling added three goals before Bloomsburg's
Marisa Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) got the final goal of the game.
Bloomsburg drops to 0-1 with the loss, while Dowling improves to 3-0. The Huskies return to action on Saturday in their home opener against Lake Erie College starting at noon.
