SHIPPENSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team dominated Shippensburg 16-4 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match up Saturday.
Marisa Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) kicked off a 5-0 Huskies scoring run at the 18 minute mark off a free position shot to tie the score at 1-1.
Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) scored two minutes later on another free position to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.
Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) scored Bloomsburg's third goal with 14:45 on the clock.
With 10 minutes left in the first half
Kelsey Metzler (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) passed to open
Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim/Springfield) in front who beat the Shippensburg goalie to give the Huskies a 4-1 edge.
Patrice Coleman (Media/Penncrest ) found the back of the net at the six minute mark to put the Huskies up 5-1.
The Raiders followed with a goal of their own then Canavan scored again off a pass from
Natalie Draham (Blue Bell/Wissahickon) pushing the score to 6-2 in favor of the Huskies. To finish off the half Metzler assisted Mazzie with six seconds left to go up 7-2 on Shippensburg.
Shippensburg began second half scoring at 24:56 which was followed by a four-goal run for the Huskies. Falk assisted to Mazzie with 23 minutes on the clock and a minute later Moley assisted Mazzie for her second straight goal giving Bloomsburg a 9-3 lead.
At the 21 minute mark Metzler assisted Falk's goal followed by an assisted goal by Draham when
Morgan Sherriff (Downingtown/Coatesville) passed to her in the middle to go up 11-3.
The Raiders scored their last goal of the game with 15 minutes remaining. Canavan scored for the Huskies with 11:13 on the clock to enhance the Huskies lead to 12-4.
Grace Malizia (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) scored her first goal of the season with 10 minutes left. Moley, Falk, Draham, and Coleman each scored a goal in the remainder of the game to seal the 16-4 victory for the Huskies.
In goal
Sara Bates (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) made five saves allowing a season-low four goals against, while
Kate Stricker (Burlington, NJ/Holy Cross) recorded a save for Bloomsburg.
Amber Shifflett (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) and
Carly Ball (Lansdale/North Penn) both had two caused turnovers for the Huskies defense in the game.
Seven goal scorers contributed to the Huskies victory. Mazzie ended the day with four while Canavan and Falk each had three goals and Falk had one assist. Metzler finished with three assists in the game and a team-high five ground balls.
Aubrey Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) and Falk had three draw controls a piece.
The Huskies held a 14-8 advantage in draw controls and 30-17 in shots.
Bloomsburg moves to 5-7 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC and will at Edinboro on Friday, Apr. 19 at 4 p.m. and at Slippery Rock Saturday, Apr. 20 at 3 p.m.
