EDINBORO—Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) scored a game-high four goals to lead the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team to a 10-8 win over Edinboro University on Friday afternoon.

Edinboro got on the board first just 2:22 into the contest. The Huskies though won the draw with Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim/Springfield) racing down field and scoring just 11 seconds later. The goal was the start of a 5-0 run for Bloomsburg. Mazzie's first goal of the game off an assist from Canavan put the Huskies up 2-1. Morgan Sheriff scored on a free position shot with 20:27 left in the half before Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) scored off an assist from Patrice Coleman (Media/Penncrest ) to make it a 4-1 game. Mazzie got her second goal of the half with Marisa Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) picking up the assist for a 5-1 Huskies lead.

Edinboro snapped the scoring run for Bloomsburg with a goal at the 11:55 mark before Mazzi scored her third goal of the half, this one unassisted, with 8:56 to play. The Fighting Scots closed out the scoring with a goal to make it a 6-3 game at the break.

The second half of play saw neither team get on the board till Canavan scored with nearly half the period gone on a free position play. Edinboro got the goal back just about a minute later to make it 7-4 with 14:28 to play.

Bloomsburg then strung together the next three goals with Mazzie getting her fourth of the game and Falk her second and third goals to make it a 10-4 lead.

The home team though continued to battle and scored four times in a 1:13 stretch to pull within 10-8 with 1:08 to play. But that would be as close as the Fighting Scots would get and the Huskies held on for the win.

Along with Mazzie scoring four times, she also had four ground balls, while Falk finished with three goals and one assist. Sara Bates (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) had five ground balls from her goalie position and also made seven saves.

With the win the Huskies go to 6-7, 4-4 in the PSAC, while Edinboro goes to 7-7, 2-6 in the PSAC. Bloomsburg plays at Slippery Rock on Saturday at 3 p.m.
