Moley Leads the Huskies to Victory Over Kutztown

BLOOMSBURG—The No. 15 Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team defeated Kutztown 12-5 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tuesday afternoon at a blustery Sports Stadium.
 
Marisa Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) led the Huskies (3-5 overall, 1-2 PSAC) with four points against Kutztown (2-5, 1-2) on two goals and two assists.  She got Bloomsburg on the board first finding the back of the net after a pass from Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim/Springfield) to tie up the score 1-1 with 25:11 left in the first half.
 
Canavan scored the next goal to start a 4-0 Huskies run to close out the first half.  At the 15:56 mark she found the back of the net on a breakaway opportunity to bring the score to 2-2.  That was followed by two free position goals.  First by Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) with just under 10 minutes to play and another from Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) at the 8:25 mark to give Bloomsburg a 4-2 advantage.
 
Moley scored her second goal of the game with under seven minutes after Carly Ball (Lansdale/North Penn) rebounded a shot that had hit the post and found Moley in the middle uncovered.  Moley beat the Kutztown goalie and scored the last goal of the half to give Bloomsburg a 5-2 edge over the Golden Bears.  That was Ball's first assist of the season.
 
Canavan started the scoring off in the second half on a free position goal with 23:44 on the clock.  The Golden Bears responded with a goal at 19:56 to bring the game within three.
 
With 16 minutes left Moley passed to Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) who found the back of the net to make the score 7-3 Huskies.
 
Kutztown scored another goal with 15 minutes left to play making the score 7-4.  Moley then assisted another goal to Mazzie with 9:40 on the clock giving the Huskies an 8-4 edge.
 
Falk scored the next two goals for Bloomsburg.  First was on a free position shot with 8:35 on the clock and two minutes later on a drive to goal making the score 10-4.
 
Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) scored her third goal of the game off a pass from Kelsey Metzler (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) at the 2:32 mark.  Metzler scored a goal of her own a minute later giving Bloomsburg a 12-5 advantage and final score.
 
Sara Bates (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) recorded five saves in goal and added a team-high seven ground balls.  Ball caused three turnovers for the Huskies and had three ground balls.
 
Overall Bloomsburg outshot Kutztown 36-14 and won 13-6 draw controls.
 
Moley led the attack with two goals and two assists while Mazzie and Falk both added three goals.  Canavan finished with two goals and an assist.
 
The Huskies continue a four game home stand hosting IUP Friday, Apr. 5 at 4 p.m; Lock Haven Saturday, Apr. 6 at 3 p.m. and Gannon on Tuesday, Apr. 9 at 4 p.m.
