Mazzie's Eight Points Leads Huskies To Win

EAST STROUDSBURG--Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown)'s career-high eight point game led the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team to a 16-9 victory over East Stroudsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Huskies 8-7, 6-4 in the PSAC, began the game with a 9-0 goal run, the first three by Mazzie. 
 
Marisa Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) assisted the first goal of the game to Mazzie 30 seconds in.  Mazzie turned around and scored another goal assisted by Kelsey Metzler (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) at the 23 minute mark and her third of the game a minute later from Moley.
 
Metzler scored with 19 minutes left in the first half off an assist by Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) to give the Huskies a 4-0 edge.  After that Metzler found Falk in front to rack up another point for Bloomsburg.
 
Moley scored her first goal of the game with 16:40 on the clock to help push the Huskies up 6-0.  She then assisted Grace Malizia (Collegeville/Perkiomen Valley) in a man-up opportunity 20 seconds later.
 
Mazzie scored her fourth goal off a pass from Metzler at 13:55.  Falk found Patrice Coleman (Media/Penncrest ) in front of the goal with six minutes remaining in the half to give Bloomsburg a comfortable 9-0 lead.
 
The Warriors scored their first goal of the game with 4:59 on the clock, followed by a second with one minute to play to push the score to 9-2 at half.
 
In the second half Mazzie took little time establishing her dominance on the field.  She scored three minutes in after a pass from Maggie Canavan (Erdenheim/Springfield).  Mazzie scored another one assisted by Falk with 23:46 remaining in the game to go up 11-2.
 
With 22 minutes to go Metzler assisted to Bossert for another Huskies goal.  The Warriors responded with a goal of their own and then Mazzie found Natalie Draham (Blue Bell/Wissahickon) open in front who beat the goalie to push the score to 13-3 with 20 minutes remaining.
 
East Stroudsburg scored two goals in the next three minutes attempting to chip away at the Huskies 10 point lead.  After a timeout Bloomsburg rallied and Mazzie had her sixth goal off a pass from Morgan Sherriff (Downingtown/Coatesville).
 
Moley scored with 15 minutes left followed by two Warriors goals to make the score 15-7.  Bossert scored the final goal for the Huskies with 2:48 on the clock for a final score of 16-9.
 
Mazzie finished the game with seven goals and one assist, Moley and Metzler each had five points in the win.  Moley finished with two goals and three assists while Metzler had a goal and four helpers.  Falk added four points on a goal and three assists and Bossert had three points off two goals and a helper. 
 
In goal Sara Bates (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) made 11 saves and picked up two ground balls for the Huskies.
 
Bloomsburg will host Millersville on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the regular season finale. It will also be senior day for the Huskies.
