Huskies Can’t Break IUP’s Undefeated Streak

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team fell to Indiana of Pa. 13-10 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game Friday at Sports Stadium.
 
Bloomsburg (3-6 overall, 1-3 PSAC) scored first at 28:04 when Marisa Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) shot one past the IUP goalie to go up 1-0.  IUP responded with the next two goals making the score 2-1 advantage to IUP (7-0, 4-0).
 
Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) scored at the 23 minute mark of the first half to tie the score 2-2.  The Crimson Hawks tallied the following two goals to take a 4-2 lead with 19 minutes to play in the second half.
 
At 17:28 Kelsey Metzler (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) passed to Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) in front of the net finishing one for Bloomsburg to lessen IUP's lead to 4-3.  Later with IUP leading 5-3, Bloomsburg went on a 3-0 run within seven minutes to take a 6-5 lead with 3:47 remaining in the half.
 
First Moley passed to Metzler on a break-away opportunity with 11 minutes to go.  Patrice Coleman (Media/Penncrest ) then dodged her defender and scored another one for the Huskies and Mazzie found Canavan in front who also found the back of the net.
 
IUP scored with 2:21 in the half to tie the score 6-6 before Canavan dished one to Bossert with 42 seconds left to score the last goal of the half giving Bloomsburg a 7-6 lead.
 
To start off the second half Canavan got the first draw control sprinted down the field and scored a quick goal for the Huskies at 29:47 to give them a two goal advantage at 8-6.
 
The Crimson Hawks responded with a 6-0 goal run in the next 15 minutes giving them a 12-8 lead with 13:45 left in the game.
 
Morgan Sherriff (Downingtown/Coatesville) scored on a free position shot with just over 10 minutes remaining to bring the Huskies back into the game at 12-9.  Sara Bates (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) also made various key saves in net to keep Bloomsburg alive.
 
Sam Mazzie (Barto/Boyertown) scored the Huskies last goal of the game with three minutes of play to make the score 12-10.  Then IUP scored the final goal with one second left to ensure the win at 13-10.
 
Canavan and Mazzie led Bloomsburg with three points each, both on two goals and one assist.  Bossert finished the game with two goals, while Metzler and Moley each added a goal and an assist a piece for the Huskies.
 
Bates held the Huskies in the game making a season-high 14 saves in net.  Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) won four draw controls for Bloomsburg, while Canavan led the team in groundballs with five and caused turnovers with three.
 
Alexa Lodovici led IUP in points for the game with eight on four goals and four assists.  Colleen Berlin scored five goals for the Crimson Hawks.
 
IUP outshot Bloomsburg 30-20, but Bloomsburg favored in draw controls 13-11.
 
The Huskies continue PSAC play Saturday, Apr. 6 when they host No. 8 Lock Haven at 3 p.m. and celebrate Lax-4-Life.
