Hampton, VA—The 22nd-ranked Bloomsburg University wrestling team went 1-1 on the first day of the 34th annual Virginia Duals Wrestling Tournament on Friday. The Huskies beat Bucknell, 24-11, in the opening match of the day and lost to Kent State, 27-12, in the second match of the day.

In the Huskies win over local rival Bucknell, Bloomsburg won seven of the 10 matches, including three by major decision. After falling behind 4-0 with a loss at 125 pounds, the Huskies won the next three matches to go up 11-4 on the Bison.
Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central) got Bloomsburg going with a 12-0 major decision followed by
Matt Rappo (Holland/Council Rock South) winning 8-4.
Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley), ranked eighth in the country, then posted a 15-5 major decision win putting the Huskies up by eight points. It was Busler's first action since early December.

After Bucknell scored a win at 157 pounds, 15th-ranked
Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) posted a 5-3 win for Bloomsburg in his first action since mid-December. That win was the first of four for the Huskies in the final five bouts of the morning. The final bout of the day was a matchup of ranked wrestlers, No. 16
Justin Grant (Easton/Easton) and No. 10 Joe Stofli with Grant scoring a 7-1 win.

Against Mid-American conference opponent Kent State the Huskies got off to a good start with a 4-1 win by
Sean Boylan (Seaville, NJ/St. Marks) at 125 pounds. However, the Golden Flashes won six of the next seven matches to grab a 27-6 lead. The only win in that stretch for the Huskies came from Veltre who won in sudden victory fashion. Bloomsburg closed out the match with wins from fifth-ranked
Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) at 197 pounds and Grant, both by decision.
The Huskies, 4-3, will face the winner of the Nebraska-Kearney/George Mason match on Saturday at 10 a.m.

NOTES: The two wins by Perry run his winning streak to 17 straight matches and improves his overall record to 19-1 on the season…Perry is now just four wins shy of 100 for his career…Bloomsburg is now 12-1-1 all-time versus the Bison…The Huskies fall to 1-2 all-time against Kent State with the loss…With a win over Bucknell the Huskies now have 590 wins in school history.
