MATCH NOTES
BLOOMSBURG--The 22nd-ranked Bloomsburg University wrestling will have two matches in three days when it takes on Rider on Friday at 7 p.m. in an EWL matchup, followed by a non-conference showdown with Hofstra on Sunday, Jan 21 at 1 p.m. at the Nelson Field House. It will be the first home matchup for the Huskies since Nov. 22, 2013 against Arizona State.
• Bloomsburg is facing Rider for the first time since the 2008-09 season. In that match the Huskies won 26-10. Overall Rider leads the all-time series with the Huskies, 7-6. The Huskies are facing Hofstra for the second straight year after beating the Pride a year ago at the Northeast Duals. Bloomsburg won the match 24-10, but trails 3-2 in the all-time series.
• The match with Rider will be the first against the Broncs as a member of the Eastern Wrestling League. Rider and George Mason are both new to the EWL in 2013-14.
• Bloomsburg is 1-0 in the EWL this season and has won eight straight EWL matches dating back to the 2011-12 season. The last EWL loss for the Huskies came against Clarion on Feb. 3, 2012 (22-18).
•The Huskies went 1-2 last weekend at the Virginia Duals beating local-rival Bucknell and falling to Kent State and Nebraska-Kearny.
•The Huskies continue to have six wrestlers ranked in various national polls:
Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central),
Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley),
Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia),
Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex),
Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) and
Justin Grant (Easton/Easton), are ranked nationally in their respective weight classes. Four of the six are ranked by Amateur Wrestling News (AWN).
• Bloomsburg is ranked 23rd this week according to Intermat and is 22nd in the Wrestling Report.Com poll.
