Wrestling team to Visit Edinboro for EWL Matchup

BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University wrestling team will travel to northwestern Pennsylvania for a matchup with longtime rival Edinboro University on Saturday at 7 p.m.

NOTES:

• The Huskies beat the Fighting Scots a year ago at the Nelson Field House, 19-18 on criteria. Bloomsburg fell behind 15-0 after the first four matches, but rallied to win five of the final six bouts to force a tie. The Huskies won the match on most total match points, 52-41 (criteria 3.15.1).

• The win for the Huskies last year over Edinboro was the ninth against 19 losses for Bloomsburg versus the Fighting Scots.

• Bloomsburg is 1-1 in the EWL this season. The Huskies had an eight-match EWL winning streak snapped last week in a 20-16 loss to Rider University.  The Huskies winning streak in the EWL dated back to the 2011-12 season.

• A week ago the Huskies split a pair of matches losing to Rider and beating Hofstra, 24-21. In the match with Hofstra the Huskies trailed by six points with two bouts left. Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) at 174 pounds then scored a win by fall at the buzzer ending the first period to tie the score at 21-21 before Sam Shirey (Beaver Springs/Midd-West) gave the Huskies the win with a 5-3 victory.

• The Huskies continue to have six wrestlers ranked in various national polls: Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central), Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley), Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex), Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) and Justin Grant (Easton/Easton), are ranked nationally in their respective weight classes. Four of the six are ranked by Amateur Wrestling News (AWN).

• Bloomsburg is ranked 22nd in the Wrestling Report.Com poll and 24th by Intermat this week.
