Women's Swim Team Downs East Stroudsburg

BLOOMSBURG—On Senior Day the Bloomsburg University women's swim team posted a 131-122 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday at the Nelson Field House pool. It was a women's only meet as ESU does not offer men's swimming.
 
During the competition the Huskies honored the seniors from both the men's and women's teams. For the women the 2013-14 seniors are: Jenna Yohey (Berwick/Berwick), Ali Luzik (Halifax/Halifax), Jess McGarry (Philadelphia/St. Hubert), Jena King (Ridley Park/Ridley), Mollie Dawson (Coatesville/Coatesville) and Tori Hall (Newtown/Council Rock North).
 
For the men the 2013-14 seniors are: Tom Malloy, Mark DiLemmo, Brendan Malone, Adam Varvaro, and Bryan Masilotti.
 
In the pool the Huskies posted eight individual events and one relay event. Winning two events were Brooke Gilson (Whitehall/Whitehall) and Meghan Gallagher (Aston/Sun Valley). Gilson, the reigning PSAC Athlete of the Week, won both the 1000-free in 10:51.96 and the 500-free in 5:33.97. Gallagher scored wins in the 200-free in 1:59.17 and the 100-free in 55.77 seconds.
 
Also earning wins were Alex Wheatley (Dresher/Upper Dublin) in the 100-back in 1:01.21; Yohey in the 50-fly in 28.51; Ashley Dix (Schwenksville/Perkiomen Valley) in the 25.69 and Rachel Brooker (Stevens/Cocalico ) in the 200-back in 2:145.38.
 
In relay action the Huskies took first in the 200-medley relay with the team of Wheatley, Emilee Carr (Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh), Brooker and Dix in a time of 1:53.83.
 
Both the men's and women's team will compete at the IUP Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
