Wrestling Team Set for Weekend Matches

MATCH NOTES

BLOOMSBURG--The 24th ranked (Wrestling Report.com) Bloomsburg University wrestling team begins a three-match homestand with matches against Cleveland State and Clarion on Friday and Sunday respectively. Bloomsburg will face Cleveland State on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a 2 p.m. matchup on Sunday, Feb. 2. The Huskies third and final home match of the year will be against George Mason on Feb. 9.

• The Huskies beat Cleveland State a year ago 29-6 in Cleveland, then followed that up with a win over Clarion, 21-9, at Clarion.

• Bloomsburg leads in the season series with the Vikings, 21-11-3, and are tied 21-21-2 with Clarion. Overall the Huskies have won 10 straight matches against Clevelend State and two of the last three matches with Clarion.

• In last year's match with Cleveland State the Huskies won the final seven bouts to pull away for the win. The only win with bonus points was a technical fall win for Frank Hickman (Castle Hayne, NC/E.A. Laney) at 157 pounds. Against Clarion the Huskies won seven of the 10 matches on the day. The only win with bonus points came from Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) who won by major decision.

• In their last match the Huskies lost to #14 Edinboro, 29-10. Bloomsburg fell behind 23-0 and despite winning three of the final five bouts could not overcome the large deficit.

• Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown), the Huskies 197-pounder, reached a milestone when he won his 100th career match in the match with Edinboro. Perry is now 22-1 on the season and 100-28 for his career.

• The Huskies continue to have six wrestlers ranked in various national polls: Nick Wilcox (Greene, NY/Greene Central), Bryce Busler (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley), Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex), Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) and Justin Grant (Easton/Easton), are ranked nationally in their respective weight classes. Three of the six are ranked by Amateur Wrestling News (AWN).
