CLARION--The Bloomsburg University wrestling team lost to Clarion University on criteria, 20-19, Friday night in an Eastern Wrestling Leauge (EWL) matchup.

Clarion started the night with a win by major decision at 125 pounds. The Huskies rallied with wins in the next five matches. Andy Schutz (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) started the comeback with a win, 11-0, at 133 pounds followed by a win by fall from Tanner Cahill (Johnstown /Conemaugh High School) in 5:26 at 141 putting Bloomsburg on top 10-6. At 149 pounds Kevin Laubach (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) won by decision making it 13-6 followed by a win by decision from Matt Hammerstone (White Haven/Crestwood ) at 157 pounds. Hammerstone pulled out a sudden victory decision, 8-6. Kurt Meske, in his first match of the year, finished the five-match win streak for Bloomsburg with a 13-6 victory at 165 pounds giving the Huskies a 19-4 lead.

The Golden Eagles started its rally with a win by fall at 174 pounds, then win by the final three bouts by decision, including a 6-4 sudden victotry at 197 pounds, to force a 19-19 tie. The match was then decided on criteria 3, which includes match points scored by both teams in all bouts, excluding pins. Clarion won the tie breaker 42-41.

WIth the loss the Huskies fall to 0-3, 0-1 in the EWL. Bloomsburg will be back in action on Dec. 29 at the Lock Haven Invitational.
