BLOOMSBURG – Bloomsburg University senior
Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown/Norristown) wrote his name in the Huskies' record book on Wednesday by taking over the school record for career 3-pointers, knocking in his 226th shot from the perimeter as part of a dominating 94-67 non-conference win over visiting Goldey-Beacom.
Bloomsburg has won four consecutive games and improves to 14-8 overall on the season.
The Lightning scored the game's first points on a jumper from Will Williams, but the Huskies then went on a 16-0 run to take control they would never relinquish. Bloomsburg extended the lead to 22 at 26-4 on a layup from
Charles Haigler (Charles Town, WV/Hargrave Military Academy) at the 11:47 mark.
Goldey-Beacom (9-13, 7-8 CACC) closed to within 13 at 39-26 following free throws from Chris Gebhart with 3:11 to play, but it would be as close as the Lightning would get. Christmas answered with a three to ignite a 16-2 sprint over the final 3:02 of the half to take a 55-28 lead to intermission.
The second half would be much of the same. Christmas posted a traditional 3-point play to stretch the lead to 30 in the first moments of the period and the Huskies ultimately led by as many as 35 points in the commanding performance. Christmas hit the record-setting 3-ball with 4:49 to play.
Christmas led the Huskies with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting including 5-of-7 from beyond the arc. The senior guard also added five assists. All five Huskies starters finished with double-figure scoring:
Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport/Williamsport) had a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds;
Charles Haigler (Charles Town, WV/Hargrave Military Academy) recorded 15 points and four assists;
Jon Riles (Philadelphia/Academy of the New Church) poured in 15 points while handing out eight assists; and
Alssene Saintilus (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) posted 14 points.
Bloomsburg shot 52.9 percent from the floor (36-of-68) and outrebounded the Lightning by a 39-27 margin. The Huskies also connected on a season-high 11 3-pointers, finishing at an 11-for-20 clip from long range (55 percent).
Robert Sweet scored a game-high 30 points for the Lightning.
The Huskies return to PSAC East play by traveling to nationally-ranked East Stroudsburg on Saturday in a meeting between the top two teams from the division. That game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
