Moley Fuels Huskies Offense in Home Opener

BLOOMSBURG—Marisa Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford)'s career-high seven points led the Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team in its its home opener Saturday against non-conference opponent Mercy College, 14-6, at Sports Stadium.
 
The Huskies, who move to 1-1 this season, took an early lead in the game going up 2-0 in the first five minutes of play.  Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) scored the team's first goal and her first goal of the season when Morgan Sherriff (Downingtown/Coatesville) found her open in front of the net just over two minutes into the game.  Moley scored next off a pass from Falk with 25:57 on the clock.
 
The Mavericks, who fall to 1-3, answered back with two goals just over two minutes apart to tie the score at 2-2 at the 13:27 minute mark.
 
With nine minutes left in the first half Falk scored off a free position to give Bloomsburg a 3-2 edge.  However, Mercy tied up the game at 3-3 to close out the first half.
 
Bloomsburg started the second half on a 3-0 run to take a 6-3 advantage after a goal by Sherriff with an assist by Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) with 29:34 on the clock and two free-position goals both from Moley at 25:57 and 21:40.  Mercy scored its fourth goal with 19:46 to go making it 6-4.  That would be the closest Mercy was for the rest of the game.
 
The Huskies then scored seven goals in 10 minutes to take a 13-4 lead over the Mavericks.  Falk scored two in a row first assisted by Moley then on a free-position.
 
Bloomsburg freshman Brigid Kyne (Newtown Square/Marple Newtown) netted a man-up shot off an assist from Moley with 14:44 remaining for an 8-4 lead.
 
Falk scored two more goals within two minutes of each other building the Huskies momentum.  With 14:08 on the clock Falk beat the goalkeeper after a pass from Moley.  Then at 12:35 Falk scored on a free-position giving Bloomsburg a 12-4 advantage. 
 
Nikki Fisher (Warminster/Gwynedd Mercy Academy ) and Aubrey Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) each scored their first goals of the season on free-positions making the score 13-2 in favor of the Huskies.  The Mavericks scored their fifth goal with just under three minutes to play.
 
The Huskies scored their final goal of the game on a man-up opportunity when Moley beat the defender and keeper to an open goal with 2:08 on the clock.  Mercy finished the game with another goal with 40 seconds left to make the final score 14-6.
 
Moley finished the game with four goals and three assists, while Falk had five goals and an assist for Bloomsburg.  Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) and Morgan Sherriff (Downingtown/Coatesville) both recorded a goal and an assist in the Huskies win, and Aubrey Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon), Kyne, and Fisher all ended with a goal apiece.
 
Carly Ball (Lansdale/North Penn) led the Huskies with four groundballs and Kate Shea (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) caused three turnovers on the defensive end.  Abbey Burnett (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) made three saves in goal for Bloomsburg.
 
The Huskies travel to Arnold, Maryland for their next two games.  On Mar. 15 the Huskies play 14th ranked Pfeiffer at 5 p.m.  Then on Mar. 16 Bloomsburg takes on Grand Valley State at 1:30 p.m.  Both games will be played at Anne Arundel Community College.
