Women’s Lacrosse Falls Short in Overtime

Box Score BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team suffered a 10-9 overtime loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent Seton Hill Tuesday, in monsoon-like conditions.
 
With eight minutes left in regulation the Griffins (11-4 overall, 6-4 PSAC) tied the game at 9-9.  Bloomsburg had possession of the ball for the last two minutes of the game, but could not convert a scoring play causing the game to go into overtime.
 
During overtime Seton Hill's Emma Simmers passed to Emily Fagan who shot past a diving Abbey Burnett (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) to score the game-winning goal with 2:16 left.  The Griffins won the ensuing draw control and maintained possession as the clock ticked down to zero securing the victory.
 

To start off the game the Griffins scored back-to-back goals to take a 2-0 lead just four minutes in.  The Huskies scored four goals in a row to gain a 4-2 advantage.
 
Brigid Kyne (Newtown Square/Marple Newtown) scored Bloomsburg's first goal with 24:09 on the clock to make the score 2-1.  Patrice Coleman (Media/Penncrest ) was assisted by Morgan Sherriff (Downingtown/Coatesville) to tie the game at 2-2.  Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) finished on a free position and then Kyne scored an unassisted goal to go up 4-2 with 16 minutes left in the half.
 
The two teams traded two goals apiece within the next six minutes bringing the score to 6-4, in favor of the Huskies.  Falk tallied both goals for Bloomsburg.
 
Seton Hill ended the half on a three goal run to take a 7-6 lead.
 
In the second half Marisa Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) assisted Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) at 23:51 to tie the game at 7-7.  One minute later Moley assisted to Aubrey Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) to take an 8-7 Huskies lead.  The Griffins tied the game again, 8-8, with 22:30 on the clock.
 
Kyne converted on a free position to take Bloomsburg's last lead of the game, 9-8, with 12 minutes to go.  The Griffins scored the last goal of regulation with 8:22 on the clock to bring the score to 9-9.  Bloomsburg had possession of the ball the last two minutes of the game, but did not find the back of the net forcing overtime. 
 
During overtime Seton Hill stole the ball away from Bloomsburg on a deputy clear play and scored on an empty net with 3:41 to go, but the goal was called back due to a crease violation by the Griffins.  They did score, however, at the 2:16 mark to win the game.
 
The Huskies outshot Seton Hill 22-21, but were held to no shots in overtime to the Griffins two.  Kyne and Falk finished the game with three goals each, while Moley tallied two assists.  Burnett made eight saves in goal for Bloomsburg and registered three ground balls. 
 
This season Falk leads the team in points with 51 on 35 goals and 16 assists.  With the three points from today's game she moves into fourth all-time for Bloomsburg in career points with 209, surpassing Samantha King's 207.  Falk is ranked eighth all-time in goals with 140, and is also fourth all-time in assists with 69.
 
Moley is second in points for Bloomsburg this season with 45 on 23 goals and a team-high 16 assists.  Kyne follows with 28 goals and eight assists for 36 points.
 
The Huskies, who fall to 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the PSAC, host East Stroudsburg Thursday, April 17 at 4 p.m. and then travel to No. 12 Mercyhurst on Saturday, April 19 for an 11 a.m. contest.
