Women’s Lacrosse Falls to IUP in Overtime Heartbreaker

Box Score INDIANA—The sixth seeded Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team lost to IUP, seeded third and ranked No. 11 nationally, 12-11, in an overtime heartbreaker on Tuesday afternoon at a blustery Frank Cignetti field for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) quarterfinals.
 
The Crimson Hawks (13-4, 10-2 PSAC) scored with 4.1 seconds left to force the game into overtime.  With 3:18 into overtime Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) stole the ball from the IUP goalie and scored on a race to the open goal to take an 11-10 lead.  The Crimson Hawks tied up the game again, 11-11, with just over one minute to go in the regulation and scored again on a free position with 39.3 seconds on the clock to win the game. 
 
The Crimson Hawks took a 1-0 lead just 1:30 into the game, but the Huskies rallied back with two straight goals to take a 2-1 lead with 22:49 on the clock.  Brigid Kyne (Newtown Square/Marple Newtown) assisted to Falk before scoring one of her own.  IUP scored two goals of their own within two minutes to retake the lead at 3-2.
 
Bloomsburg and the Crimson Hawks scored two more to close out the half, while the Huskies tallied three goals to bring the score to a 5-5 deadlock at halftime.  Falk was assisted by Kyne again and then Falk found the back of the net after racing down the field and scoring on a fast break.  Aubrey Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) tied the game at 5-5 off a pass from Morgan Sherriff (Downingtown/Coatesville).
 
The Huskies started off the second half with a free-position goal by Marisa Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) and a goal by Patrice Coleman (Media/Penncrest ) from Kyne to take a 7-5 lead with 27:21 left. The Crimson Hawks netted back-to-back goals to re-tie the game at 7-7 with 20 minutes remaining.
 
 After Moley's goal was called back after a crease violation Falk stole the ball on an IUP clear and scored on a one-v-three situation to take an 8-7 lead with 18:28 left.  The Crimson Hawks added another before Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) shot one in off a pass from Falk to give the Huskies a 9-8 advantage.
 
The Crimson Hawks scored their ninth goal of the game with nine minutes left tying the score at 9-9.  Falk tallied an unassisted goal at the 7 minute mark to take another Huskies lead at 10-9.
 
With 38 seconds left Abbey Burnett (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) made a point blank save.  On the clear attempt the ball was turned over, and IUP scored with 4.1 seconds on the clock to end regulation in a 10-10 tie. 
 
In overtime Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) caused a turnover and netted one to take an 11-10 lead with 3:18 left.  IUP scored with one minute left to tie it and then with 39.3 seconds left on a free-position to win the game. 
 
In goal freshman Abbey Burnett (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) made 12 key saves.  Falk led the Bloomsburg offense with six goals and one assist and Kyne finished with a goal and three assists.

This season Falk led the Huskies offense with 74 points on 50 goals and 24 assists, and added a team-high 69 draw controls.  Moley follows with 61 points on 33 goals and 28 assists, while freshman Kyne finished her debut season with 38 goals and 13 assists for 51 points, a team-high 38 ground balls and 22 caused turnovers.  
 
Bloomsburg finishes their season 9-8 overall, 7-5 in the PSAC.  IUP moves on to play second seeded Mercyhurst in the PSAC semi-final Friday at Lock Haven.
