10 Unanswered Goals Pushes Women’s Lacrosse Past The Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK—The No. 15 Bloomsburg University women's lacrosse team defeated Slippery Rock, 18-13, Saturday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.  The Huskies scored 10 goals in a row to stomp out any hopes of a Rock comeback.

Prior to the game, both teams honored the Wounded Warrior Project.
 
The Rock (4-6 overall, 1-4 PSAC) and the Huskies started the game in a back and forth battle trading four goals apiece within 20 minutes of play.  Then with nine minutes to go in the first half Bloomsburg scored its first of 10 goals in a row, between two halves, to capture the lead for the rest of the game.
 
Slippery Rock was on the board first to go up 1-0 only six minutes into the game.  Carly Ball (Lansdale/North Penn) netted the Huskies first goal at the 20 minute mark to tie it up at 1-1.  Marisa Moley (Phoenixville/Spring-Ford) scored off a pass from Brigid Kyne (Newtown Square/Marple Newtown) after another Rock goal to maintain the tie score, 2-2.
 
After Slippery Rock took a 3-2 lead, Julie Falk (Millersville/Penn Manor) scored back to back goals, first off a free position and second assisted by Morgan Sherriff (Downingtown/Coatesville), to take the first Huskies lead, 4-3, with 11:08 on the clock.  The Rock scored on a free position of their own to even out the score, 4-4.
 
Sherriff tallied a goal off a free position to start the Huskies 10 goal rally with nine minutes remaining in the half.  Falk followed suit with two goals of her own, the first assisted by Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon).  Moley finished a free position and then was assisted by Falk on a man-down opportunity.  Aubrey Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) scored the last of the half with 2:14 to go giving the Huskies a 10-4 advantage at halftime. 
 
To start off the second half Falk found Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) in front for an assisted goal three minutes in.  Moley tallied an unassisted goal and then Patrice Coleman (Media/Penncrest ) assisted to Kyne for another score.  Ashlely Bossert finished off the 10 goal run by scoring on a free position man-up opportunity bringing the score to 14-4 with 22:44 on the clock.
 
The Rock tallied their first goal of the second half with just under 20 minutes to go.  Kyne answered back with a goal on a free position making the score 15-5.  Bloomsburg and Slippery Rock traded another set of goals making it 16-6.  The Rock had two more goals in a row bringing the score to 16-8 in favor of Bloomsburg with 12 minutes remaining. 
 
Ball assisted Moley before Slippery Rock scored three goals in a row to come within six, 17-11.  Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) tallied Bloomsburg's last goal of the game with 7:21 left to play on a free position.  Slippery Rock scored two more goals to finish the game, 18-13.
 
Bloomsburg outshot Slippery Rock 39-20 and held a 20-13 advantage in draw controls.
 
Falk led the Huskies offense with six points off four goals and two assists.  She also tied a career-best in draw controls with 10, which she last did in 2013 against Millersville.  Moley finished with a team-high five goals, while Ashley Bossert (Ambler/Wissahickon) and Kyne registered three goals and an assist each.  Ball and Sherriff each had one goal and one assist.  In goal Abbey Burnett (Frederick, MD/Walkersville) made six saves and one groundball.
 
The Huskies move to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the PSAC, the third best conference record.
 
This season Falk leads Bloomsburg in points with 44, goals with 29, and draw controls with 45.  In the conference Falk ranks fifth in draw controls per game averaging 4.50.  She has also tallied 15 assists this season pushing her career total to 68, placing her fourth all-time for the Huskies.
 
Bloomsburg's next game is Saturday, April 12 at Edinboro (2-4, 4-6) for another PSAC game at 1 p.m.
