BLOOMSBURG – A penalty stroke goal in overtime from Rachel Dickinson gave top-ranked Millersville a 1-0 victory, ending Bloomsburg's hopes for an upset on Wednesday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium.

Dickinson was set up with a penalty stroke attempt 1:41 into the extra period following a Bloomsburg foul, and went to the left of the cage past the extended reach of the Bloomsburg keeper to keep Millersville unbeaten at 5-0 and 2-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play. Ninth-ranked Bloomsburg moves to 2-3, 1-2.

After Millersville controlled much of the first half, the Huskies came alive in the second period. Bloomsburg had the best scoring opportunity of the day with just over 10 minutes remaining when Nikki Black (Huntington Mills/Northwest Area) worked herself free of the defense in front on the near side. Black's open shot nearly went top shelf, but caught enough of the post to deflect away and keep the game scoreless.

Lindsay Cassel (Hummelstown/Lower Dauphin) was frequently impressive in the cage for the Huskies, maintaining the scoreless deadlock through the 70 minutes of regulation. Millersville had multiple chances, with a great opportunity coming in the 27th minute when the Marauders had an open look following a penalty corner, only to have the shot kicked away by a running Cassel to end the threat. In all, Cassel made five saves while Candice Smith (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) and Alexis Carroll (Churchville/Council Rock South) also had one defensive save apiece.

Dickinson led the way offensively all day for Millersville, posting a team-high three shots.

The Huskies return to action against another nationally ranked opponent, No. 4 West Chester, Saturday at 12 noon inside Steph Pettit Stadium.

GAME NOTES: Wednesday was the Huskies' "Play For The Cure" game as the team sold T-shirts and accepted donations with all proceeds going toward Geisinger's Janet Weis Children's Hospital. The team wore "She's a Fighter" headbands and had a special sign on hand in support of Huskies Team IMPACT member Sarah, an area girl battling leukemia. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Both Bloomsburg and Millersville wore special pink shirts in pre-game as part of their recognition.
