RosterSETTING THE SCENE...Bloomsburg is coming off its season opener at the Eastern Michigan Duals. The Huskies lost three matches falling to #27 Kent State, Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois.
Bloomsburg will once again feature a lineup with many new faces. The Huskies will feature three wrestlers seeing action seeing action for the first time this season in the match with Clarion:
Chase Zemenak (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) (133);
Ryan Snow (Dexter, NY/General Brown) (141);
Casey Glunt (Mercersburg, Pa./James Buchanan) (174).
Bloomsburg freshman
Bo Spiller (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) (285) picked up a win in his first collegiate match last week when he beat Stephen Suglio of Kent State, 16-10.
A week earlier at the Clarion Open the Huskies other freshman at 285 pounds,
Saul Wilkins (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./GAR), won his first match in his first-ever collegiate match picking up a fall in 5:50.
T.C. Warner (Mechanicsburg/Cumberland Valley ) (149) was ranked 33rd in last week's WrestlingReport.com rankings before losing three tough bouts. Warner lost 5-4 to #17 Mack McGuire of Kent State; 3-0 to Wireman of Eastern Michigan and 6-3 to Morse of Northern Illinois.
Red-shirt freshman
Brendon Colbert (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) (157) won his final match on Sunday at the EMU Duals when he beat Auston Colton of Northern Illinois, 4-0. The win evened Colbert's record at 4-4.
The only ranked opponent the Huskies will face this week is Brock Zacherl (141) ranked No. 28.
Alumni day has been announced for Sat. Feb,. 13, 2016 vs. Sacred Heart.
TEAM NOTESCAPTAINS NAMEDThe captains of the 2015-16 Bloomsburg University wrestling team will be
Kevin Laubach (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) (Berwick, Pa./Berwick Area) and
Andy Schutz (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area).
Laubach, a junior, wrestled at 149 pounds a year ago for the Huskies winning 13 matches. He was a PSAC and EWL placewinner taking sixth at both events.
Schutz, a junior and wrestling at 133 pounds, was second on the team with 15 wins last season. He was a PSAC placewinner taking third as well as an EWL placewinner finishing sixth.
CLARION OPENThe Bloomsburg University wrestling team sent several members of its team to Clarion Open to start the 2015-16 season. Competing as attached members were
Sam Holandez (Carson, Ca./Carson) at 125 pounds;
Brendon Colbert (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) and
Alex Wolfe (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) at 157 pounds. In addition 10 other wrestlers competed unattached.
Holandez finished the day going 3-2 losing in the quarterfinals in the championship round, then falling in the consolation round of four to end his day. Colbert went 2-2 on the day winning two bouts in the consolation bracket, while Wolfe was 0-2.
LAST YEAR WITH CLARIONThe Bloomsburg wrestling team lost to Clarion on criteria, 20-19, in last year's matchup. The Huskies won five of the first six bouts, but Clarion won the final four to tie the score. The match was then decided on criteria 3, which included match points scored by both teams in all bouts, excluding pins. Clarion won the tie-breaker 42-41.
LOOKING AHEADThe Huskies will once again feature a challenging schedule with four nationally ranked opponents listed (Lehigh, Edinboro, North Carolina State, Rider and Kent State (#27 at time of match).
NEXT MATCHThe Huskies welcome Purdue from the Big 10 to the Nelson Field House on Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m.
