STORYLINE
Several playoff scenarios for the Bloomsburg University women's soccer team are in play on this final weekend of the regular season. The Huskies can clinch a spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament with a victory on Saturday at Clarion. The Huskies can also still sneak into the playoffs with a tie and a Shippensburg win over IUP as Bloomsburg holds the tiebreaker over the Crimson Hawks. Bloomsburg can also climb as high as the seventh seed with a win and a Shippensburg/IUP tie on Saturday.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Bloomsburg holds a 9-1-1 lead in the all-time series over Clarion.
LAST TIME OUT
Redshirt senior
Maureen Leis (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield Township) and sophomore
Jessica Supp (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) scored 7:36 apart early in the first half and sophomore goalkeeper
Devon Haviland (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made the lead stand as the Huskies won their third straight match with a 2-0 win at IUP last Saturday. It was Leis' second game-winning goal of the season while Supp has scored in three straight matches and now has a team-leading five goals on the campaign. Haviland added to her PSAC lead with her eighth shutout of the season. She stopped four shots in the victory.
Clarion gave third-ranked West Chester everything it could handle last Saturday but the Golden Rams were able to stave off the upset-bid with a 1-0 victory over the Golden Eagles. West Chester scored the lone goal of the game in the 33rd minute. Clarion goalkeeper Krista Mosi stopped five shots in a losing effort.
LAST MEETING
Bloomsburg and Clarion last tangled at Steph Pettit Stadium on October 31, 2015 with the Huskies holding on for a 1-0 victory in the regular season finale.
Hailey Vonasek (Sparks, MD/Notre Dame Prep) scored the lone goal of the contest with 12:06 left in the opening half off of an assist from
Allie Camp (Beavertown, Pa./Midd-West). The Huskies held an 18-7 shot advantage and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
Devon Haviland (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) stopped five shots for the shutout while Krista Mosi turned aside ten Bloomsburg shots in the loss.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
Bloomsburg, ranked ninth in the latest NSCAA Atlantic Region poll, trails IUP and Shippensburg by one point for one of the final two playoff spots in the PSAC standings. However, IUP and Shippensburg play each other on Saturday so a Bloomsburg victory over Clarion gets the Huskies in the postseason. Bloomsburg is tenth in the PSAC in scoring offense (1.31) but is tied for fourth in the league in scoring defense (0.75). Sophomore
Jessica Supp (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) has taken over the team lead in scoring thanks to scoring a goal in three straight contests. She leads the team with five goals and also has an assist for a team-high 11 points. Right on her heels is sophomore
Allie Barber (Pittston Township, Pa./Pittston Area) who has two goals and six assists for ten points. Barber is tied for second in the PSAC with her six helpers. Freshman
Megan Callan (Eldersburg, Md./Century) has chipped in seven points on two goals and three assists while redshirt senior
Maureen Leis (Erdenheim, Pa./Springfield Township) (3g) and senior
Allie Camp (Beavertown, Pa./Midd-West) (1g, 4a) have six points apiece. In goal, sophomore
Devon Haviland (Warminster, Pa./Archbishop Wood) is the reigning PSAC Athlete of the Week. She has posted three consecutive shutouts and has not allowed a goal in the last 324:26. The last goal she allowed came on October 11 when Kutztown scored in the 36th minute during the Huskies' 1-0 loss to the Golden Bears.
