ERIE, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team earned its first dual victory of the season on Friday night with a 110-94 win at Gannon University. The Huskies improved to 1-1 on the year while the Golden Knights dropped to 1-1 in the young season.

Karly Hursey (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) dominated the distance events and earned a pair of individual victories on Friday night. Junior

Courtney Middleton (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) chipped in with an individual and a relay victory apiece. Sophomore
Sydney Mercer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Millville) and freshman
Shannon Ball (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) joined Ritter and Middleton on the winning 200-yard medley relay team while freshman
Kaitlyn Floyd (Mertztown, Pa./Kutztown Area) added an individual win in the 200-yard freestyle.
Hursey blazed past the field in both the 500-yard freestyle and the 1000-yard freestyle to earn win in both events. In the 1000-yard race, the junior won the race by just over a minute-and-a-half as she touched the wall in 10:42.92. She was just as good in the 500-yard event as she posted a time of 5:16.35 - winning by just under three seconds over teammate, freshman
Rebecca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) (5:19.21). She hit the PSAC standard in both events.
All told, the Huskies had 17 PSAC qualifying times on Friday night.
Ritter's individual victory came in the 200-yard breaststroke where she won with a time of 2:28.33. Middleton claimed her victory in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 2:13.06.
Floyd earned her first collegiate victory in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.84.
The Huskies started the dual with a one-two finish in the 200-yard medley relay to jumpstart their evening. The winning team of Mercer, Middleton, Ritter, and Ball won with a time of 1:53.33 - just ahead of the second-place team of Floyd, freshman
Deanna Shuster (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), senior
Connie Medura (Plymouth, Pa./Nanticoke Area), and freshman
Kiera Wadsworth (Folsom, Pa./Ridley), which finished in 1:54.37.
After Hursey (1000-yard freestyle)Â and Floyd (200-yard freestyle) made it three-for-three in wins to start the meet, junior
Kate Cossitor (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) and freshman
Rebecca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) finished second and third, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle. The Huskies then went 2-3-4 in the 400-yard individual medley when Mercer, Ritter, and senior
Brooke Gilson (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) tacked on more points on the night.
Middleton followed with her victory in the 200-yard butterfly and got help as senior
Colleen Finias (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) and Shuster finished third and fourth, respectively. Cossitor and Wadsworth then had back-to-back second place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke before Hursey earned her second dominant win of the night in the 500-yard freestyle.
Ritter closed out the individual events with her win in the 200-yard breaststroke.Â

Mary Kate Boylan (Edgemont, Pa./Penncrest)Â put together a time of 1:41.88 in the race.
Bloomsburg will jump right back into the pool on Saturday afternoon when they head to Edinboro University for a 12:00 p.m. start.
