EDINBORO, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team won its second consecutive meet on Saturday afternoon with a 113-91 victory at Edinboro University. The Huskies improved to 2-1 on the young season while the Fighting Scots dropped to 1-2 on the year.
The Huskies won five individual events - two by junior
Karly Hursey (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) - and had 16 PSAC qualifying times in the victory. Hursey won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.60 and then captured the 500-yard freestyle with a season-best time of 5:15.85 - the third-fastest time in the conference to date this season. It was the second consecutive time Hursey earned a victory in the 500-yard freestyle after also touching the wall first in Friday's meet at Gannon.

Rebecca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) earned a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:54.97, sophomore
Sydney Mercer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Millville) posted a time of 1:02.11 to win the 100-yard backstroke, and junior
Sarah Ritter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) captured the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.30.
The Huskies started the meet with second- and third-place finishes in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Mercer, Ritter, redshirt junior
Courtney Middleton (Vineland, N.J./Vineland), and junior
Kate Cossitor (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) posted Bloomsburg's best time (1:53.66) while freshman
Deanna Shuster (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), sophomore
Lina Brouse (Ambler, Pa./Upper Dublin), senior
Colleen Finias (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East), and redshirt sophomore
Mary Kate Boylan (Edgemont, Pa./Penncrest) finished in a time of 1:55.06.
Bloomsburg then finished 1-2 in the 1000-yard freestyle with Cubbler edging senior
Brooke Gilson (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) (10:57.52) to win the event. The Huskies followed with a 1-2-3 finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Hursey won the race with freshman
Shannon Ball (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) (2:03.08) and Mercer (2:04.46) finishing second and third.
After second-place finishes by freshman
Kaitlyn Floyd (Mertztown, Pa./Kutztown Area) (25.52) in the 50-yard freestyle, Middleton (2:15.46) in the 200-yard individual medley, Cubbler (1:02.00) in the 100-yard butterly, and Floyd (56.12) in the 100-yard freestyle, the Huskies got back to their winning ways when Mercer captured the 100-yard backstroke, holding off Shuster (1:02.42). Bloomsburg also went 1-2 in the 500-yard freestyle with Hursey taking the event by just under nine seconds over Gilson.
Ritter claimed the Huskies' last win of the day in the 100-yard breaststroke as senior
Connie Medura (Plymouth, Pa./Nanticoke Area) finished third in the event with a time of 1:10.90.
Bloomsburg closed out the day with second- and third-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The top-finishing team of Boylan, Cubbler, Floyd, and Ball finished just seven-tenths of a second behind Edinboro's winning squad. Middleton, Cossitor, Shuster, and freshman
Kiera Wadsworth (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) also had a strong showing, taking third in the event.
The Huskies will return to action on Saturday, November 12 when they return to the Nelson Field House Pool to host Clarion University. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
