HUSKIES NOTES

•Bloomsburg fell to 3-4 on the season after losing to Michigan State, 31-12, last week here at the Nelson Field House. The Huskies dropped the first six bouts of the day, but finished strong by winning three of the final matches.

• Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) got the Huskies on the board against the Spartans winning 7-3 at 184 lbs, while Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) came off red-shirt and posted a 4-3 win at 285 lbs with Willy Giard finishing things up with a win by fall in 3:25 at 125 lbs.

• In his five wins this season Brendon Colbert (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) åis averaging 13 points per match. He has three wins by major decision and one by technical fall.

• Colbert leads the Huskies in points scored in dual matches with 20, while Girard is second with 18 with Matt Noble (Bridgewater, NJ/DePaul Catholic (NJ)) third at  16.

• Bloomsburg leads the all-time series with the Patriots, 7-3, although George Mason has won the last two meetings. A year ago George Mason posted a 38-4 win in Virginia.

PATRIOTS NOTES

• George Mason is 0-3 on the year after dropping a pair of matches at the Grapple at the Garden event last Sunday in New York City. The Patriots fell to Buffalo (32-9) and to Hofstra (18-13).

• Sophomore Tejon Anthony (6-3) won both his matches on the day,  while senior Sahid Kargbo (7-0) also picked up a pair of victories.

• In the match with Buffalo, Matthew Raines also posted a victory, while in the match with Hofstra Daniel Mika and Matthew Voss were both winners.

• Joe Russell begins his sixth year as the George Mason head coach. In his five years as head coach, Russell has guided the Patriots to a 34-71 dual record, making improvements on Mason's winless season five years ago. Russell also coached several wrestlers at the NCAA Championships. Most recently in 2016 Russell coached senior Greg Flournoy, who went 31-12 overall and 4-1 in Eastern Wrestling League matches this season and finished his career with 95 total wins after going 1-2 at the NCAA Championships in New York. In 2011 he coached Mendbagana Tovuujav and Vincent Rodriquez to a bid into the NCAA National Tournament and Jake Kettler in 2012. He coached current wrestler Sahid Kargbo in representing USA Wrestling at Junior World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria in 2012.
