Complete Day One Results
AKRON, Ohio - The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team finds itself in ninth place after day one at the Zippy Invitational, hosted by the University of Akron. The Huskies finished with 78 points after the first day of competition.
Bloomsburg did a majority of its damage in the relay events as the Huskies totaled 52 points in those two races.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of junior
Kate Cossitor (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley), junior
Alex Burns (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg), redshirt sophomore
Mary Kate Boylan (Edgemont, Pa./Penncrest), and freshman
Kaitlyn Floyd (Mertztown, Pa./Kutztown Area) finished in 15th place overall with a time of 1:38.96 - good for 24 points in the team standings. The 400-yard medley relay event saw the team of sophomore
Sydney Mercer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Millville), junior
Sarah Ritter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll), redshirt junior
Courtney Middleton (Vineland, N.J./Vineland), and freshman
Rebecca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) finish in 13th place with a mark of 3:55.41. That time gave the Huskies 28 more points in the standings.
The 400-yard medley relay time was the eighth-fastest in program history.
The Huskies had two individuals reach the finals from the preliminary round earlier in the day - both of whom competed in the 500-yard freestyle. Junior
Karly Hursey (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) posted the Huskies' best time, finishing fourth in the "B" final, and 12th overall, with a time of 5:01.48 to give the team 15 points. Cubbler was eighth in the "B" final, and 16th overall, touching the wall in 5:06.12 to add 11 more points for the team.
Both 500-yard freestyle times were slightly slower than their marks during the prelims but still were under the NCAA 'B' qualifying standard.
The hosts, Akron, leads the overall team standings after the opening day.
Day two of competition will get underway with preliminary races beginning at 9:00 a.m. Finals of day two will begin at 6:00 p.m.
