BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team rallied from an 18-12 deficit to tie the match at 18-18 with one bout remaining against George Mason University on Saturday afternoon at the Nelson Field House. However, the Patriots came away with a 24-18 victory after winning the final match of the day by fall.  It was the EWL (Eastern Wrestling League) opener for both teams.
Â
The match was back and forth from the start with the Patriots jumping out to a 6-0 lead after the heavyweight match (the day began with the 285 lb. bout). The Huskies though rallied and took a 9-6 lead after win by major decision from
Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) at 125 lbs. and a victory by technical fall from
Matt Noble (Bridgewater, NJ/DePaul Catholic (NJ)) at 133 lbs. Both Girard and Noble dominated their matches with Girard posting a 13-1 win and Noble winning, 25-9.
Â

Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) posted a 4-0 win at 184 lbs. to bring the match down to the final bout.
Â
At 197 lbs the Huskies

Then with about 30 seconds to go in the period some hand fighting took place with Meadows rolling into a takedown. He quickly got Worthing tilted and scored the win by fall with 10 seconds to go in the period giving the visitors the win.
Â
Bloomsburg is now 3-5, 0-1 EWL, while the Patriots go to 1-3, 1-0 in the EWL. Bloomsburg wrestles at the PSAC Championships on Dec. 10 at Lock Haven.
