EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team won its sixth consecutive dual on Saturday afternoon with a 124-74 victory at East Stroudsburg University. The Huskies improved to 6-1 in dual competition this season while the Warriors dropped to 5-2 on the year.
The Huskies had winners in six individual events on Saturday and also earned a victory in the final event of the afternoon - the 200-yard freestyle relay. Junior
Karly Hursey (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) led the Huskies with a pair of first-place finishes in the distance events while redshirt senior
Kaci McIlmoyle (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) won the 200-yard individual medley and was part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team.
Bloomsburg picked up its first victory of the afternoon when Hursey continued her distance dominance this season in the 1000-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 10:45.99. East Stroudsburg's Tarah Killane was second - more than half a minute behind Hursey's time.
The Huskies followed with runner-up finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle and 50-yard freestyle events. Freshman
Kaitlyn Floyd (Mertztown, Pa./Kutztown Area) was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.73 while senior
Brooke Gilson (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) was five one-hundredths of a second behind to finish in third. Redshirt sophomore
Mary Kate Boylan (Edgemont, Pa./Penncrest) took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.42. Freshman
Rebecca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) (25.70) and freshman
Kiera Wadsworth (Folsom, Pa./Ridley) (26.12) were also in the mix and finished third and fourth respectively.
Bloomsburg then rattled off wins in the next five individual events to pull away from the Warriors. McIlmoyle started the run with her victory in the 200-yard individual medley, posting a time of 2:13.27. Sophomore
Abby Kling (York, Pa./Spring Grove) followed with a win in the 200-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 2:23.62. Freshman
Deanna Shuster (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) was a close second in the event with a mark of 2:26.06.
Cubbler earned her only win of the day in the 100-yard freestyle, touching first in 54.74. Boylan was a close second with a time of 54.99. Sophomore
Sydney Mercer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Millville) followed with a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke as she touched with a time of 2:06.80. Wadsworth (2:12.70) and junior
Megan Carey (Waymart, Pa./Holy Cross) (2:16.52) were second and third respectively.
Hursey closed out her afternoon with her second win of the day in the 500-yard freestyle. She out-touched Gilson by just over six seconds, posting a time of 5:19.15. Gilson came in second with a mark of 5:25.80.
Senior
Connie Medura (Plymouth, Pa./Nanticoke Area) placed second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:37.98 to close out the individual races.
McIlmoyle, Carey, junior
Kate Cossitor (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley), and Floyd were the members of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team. They won the event in a time of 1:41.35 to close out the day of swimming.
The Huskies will travel to IUP next Friday, January 27, and Saturday, January 28, to compete in the Crimson Hawk Invitational.
