INDIANA, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team closed out the regular season in style over the weekend with a 209-138 victory over IUP at the two-day John A. Pidgeon Invitational. It was Bloomsburg's seventh consecutive victory as it ends the regular season with a 7-1 overall record.
Junior
Sarah Ritter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) paced the Huskies with four victories over the weekend - two individual and two relays - while sophomore
Sydney Mercer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Millville) (two individual and one relay), freshman
Rebecca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) (three relays), and junior
Karly Hursey (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) (one individual and two relays) were part of three victories at the event.
All told, the Huskies had 41 PSAC qualifying times over the weekend and a dozen swimmers grabbed first place at least once during the invitational.
Bloomsburg's first victory of the weekend came in the 200-yard individual medley where Mercer posted a time of 2:12.68 - two-hundredths of a second faster than redshirt senior
Kaci McIlmoyle (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove). Freshman
Kiera Wadsworth (Folsom, Pa./Ridley), who had a solid weekend, came in fifth with a time of 2:16.11.

Kate Cossitor (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) captured first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.31, just ahead of redshirt sophomore
Mary Kate Boylan (Edgemont, Pa./Penncrest) (25.50) and freshman
Shannon Ball (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) (25.56) who were second and third respectively.
The Huskies then finished 1-2 in both the 400-yard medley relay and the 200-yard medley relay events. In the 400, Mercer, Ritter, redshirt junior
Courtney Middleton (Vineland, N.J./Vineland), and Cubbler teamed up for the win with a time of 4:04.31. In the 200, Wadsworth, Ritter, Cossitor, and Boylan posted the winning time of 1:53.21.
Bloomsburg's next victory came in the 100-yard breaststroke where Ritter claimed the win with a time of 1:10.11. Junior
Lauren Minford (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) was right behind, coming in second with a time of 1:10.92.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, freshman
Kaitlyn Floyd (Mertztown, Pa./Kutztown Area), senior
Brooke Gilson (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall), Hursey, and Cubbler teamed up for a first-place time of 8:00.63. Hursey then continued her string of victories in the 1000-yard freestyle, posting a time of 10:42.12 - just over a dozen seconds faster than second-place Cubbler (10:54.19).
The Huskies then posted back-to-back victories in the 100-yard individual medley and the 200-yard backstroke. McIlmoyle won the 100-yard IM, touching the wall in 1:01.36 while Mercer claimed the title in the 200-yard backstroke with a mark of 2:07.44. Ritter followed, later, with a win in the 200-yard breaststroke, posting a time of 2:28.78.
Bloomsburg closed out the event with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay as Gilson, Cubbler, Hursey, and Ball edged out IUP's team by less than half-a-second.
The Huskies will hold their Senior Celebration Day on Saturday, February 4 at the Nelson Field House Pool beginning at 12:00 p.m. Bloomsburg will then head to the PSAC Championships in York, Pennsylvania, on February 16 through February 19.
