BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University wrestling team was in a lot of matches on Sunday afternoon but ultimately fell to visiting Bucknell University, 33-6, at the Nelson Field House. The Huskies dropped to 4-14 on the season while the Bison improved to 7-4 overall with the victory.
Freshman John Barber earned his first collegiate dual victory with a 6-3 decision over David Kelly at 149 pounds to get the Huskies on the scoreboard. Barber improved to 2-5 overall on the campaign. Redshirt freshman
Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) picked up Bloomsburg's other victory on the afternoon, an 11-6 decision over D.J. Hollingshead, at 174 pounds. Allard extended his team lead in victories to 17 with Sunday's victory.
Bloomsburg competed hard and had four other matches that could've gone either away. In the opening bout of the afternoon, freshman
Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) was able to tie his match late in the third period on a stalling penalty and a riding time point. However, Bucknell's Jordan Gessner scored a takedown in sudden victory to earn an 8-6 win. Then, at 133 pounds, redshirt freshman Matt Noble lost, 3-2, on a riding time point. Later in the dual, freshman
Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) suffered a 2-1 loss. After a scoreless overtime period, Bucknell's Drew Phipps was able to escape during his thirty seconds while Murphy was unable to do so during his time on the bottom. Finally, at 285, freshman
Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) lost, 3-2, to Tyler Greene. The match was tied a 1-1 until Greene scored a takedown with under a minute remaining. Graeber escaped but could not complete the comeback.
Bloomsburg will be back in action on Friday, February 3, when it travels to Cleveland State University for an Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) showdown. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
