STORYLINE
Bloomsburg certainly strengthened its playoff hopes by virtue of its 3-2 overtime win over Slippery Rock last Saturday. However, work still needs to be done and the Huskies travel to the hottest team in the league, Millersville, for a battle with the Marauders who have already clinched a spot in the PSAC tournament. The Marauders are riding an eight-game winning streak entering Tuesday's matchup.
ALL-TIME SERIES
The Huskies lead the all-time series, 43-16-4, but the Marauders have won nine consecutive matchups dating back to Bloomsburg's last victory - a 1-0 overtime road victory on September 19, 2012. Millersville has ended the Huskies' season in each of the last two years in the postseason including a 2-0 win over Bloomsburg in the PSAC Quarterfinals last season - the last contest between the two schools.
LAST TIME OUT FOR BOTH TEAMS
Senior
MacKenna Mahan (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) scored 53 seconds into overtime to compete a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Slippery Rock last Saturday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium. The Huskies trailed, 2-1, with just under four minutes remaining when freshman
Alyssa Broadt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) notched her first collegiate goal to force overtime and to set up Mahan's heroics. Sophomore
Ali McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech) scored the other Bloomsburg goal just eight minutes into the contest. Freshman
Dana Sheply (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) was credited with three saves on the afternoon to improve her overall record to 6-5 on the season.
Millersville won for the eighth consecutive time last Saturday with a 2-0 win at Mansfield. Erica Tarsi and Emma Boutcher scored second-half goals for the Marauders to snap a scoreless tie at the break. Kylee Bair made two saves for Millersville, which outshot Mansfield, 26-12, on the afternoon.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies enter the matchup with an 8-6 overall record and a 4-2 mark in the PSAC - tied with East Stroudsburg for third place in the conference standings. Bloomsburg is fourth in the league in scoring average (2.71) but is just seventh in the conference in scoring defense (1.64). Senior
MacKenna Mahan (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area), last Saturday's hero, leads the Huskies in scoring with nine goals and four assists for 22 points and has established new career-highs in all three categories. She is tied for sixth in the PSAC in points (22) and is tied for eighth in the league in goals (9). Three other players have eclipsed double digits in points this season - junior
Abby Sauder (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal) (six goals, two assists), junior
Brooke Zeiders (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) (five goals, three assists), and senior
Geneka Mahan (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) (five goals, one assist). Sophomore
Ali McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech) leads the team with five assists and has nine points to her credit this season. Defensively, senior
Sally DeLuca (West Pittston, Pa./Wyoming Area) is tied for the PSAC lead in defensive saves with seven while junior
Jackie Shragher (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) is tied for third with five. In goal, freshman
Dana Sheply (Maple Shade, N.J./Maple Shade) has started 11 of the team's 14 games and is 6-5 with a 1.61 goals against average and a .719 save percentage. She is seventh in the PSAC in goals against average, ninth in save percentage, and sixth in saves per game (4.18). Freshman
Hannah Barnard (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) has started the other three games and is 2-1 with a 1.35 goals against average and an .815 save percentage on the season.
SCOUTING MILLERSVILLE
Millersville is the hottest team, not only in the PSAC, but in the country as it is riding an eight-game winning streak into Tuesday's contest. Not only have the Marauders won eight straight, but all eight have come via shutout as they have not allowed a goal in the last 597:16 of action. Millersville's last loss came at the hands of IUP by a 1-0 final on September 23. The Marauders are fifth in the league in scoring average (2.57) and they lead the conference in scoring defense (0.71). Erica Tarsi leads the team in scoring with eight goals and six assists for 22 points. She is tied with Mahan for sixth in the PSAC in points. Meanwhile, Kathleen Bishop has also scored eight goals this season and has a total of 19 points on the year. The duo have combined for 16 of the team's 36 goals on the season. Aliza Mizak is also in double figures in scoring with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Kylee Bair has been sensational in goal for the Marauders as she leads the conference in goals against average (0.60). She has allowed only seven goals in her 12 appearances this season and sports an .813 save percentage to go along with a PSAC-leading eight shutouts.
