Huskies Split Mountaineer Duals on Saturday

BOONE, N.C. – The Bloomsburg University wrestling team split its first dual competition of the season on Saturday (Nov. 10), shutting out Davidson 43-0 and falling to Appalachian State 28-7.
 
The Huskies earned their second consecutive shutout of Davidson in program history (Nov. 6, 2016 35-0) behind five decisions, one major decision, three wins by fall and one win by forfeit. Kevin Laubach, Jr. earned a 4-2 decision to start it off, followed by a 4-0 decision at 165 by Nate Newberry (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville). Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) earned a win by decision at 174 with an identical score of 4-2. At 184 pounds, Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) broke the streak of wins by decision with a pin at 5:49. Logan Womelsdorf (Benton, Pa./Northwest Area) earned the second straight win by fall at 197 in 4:49, extending the lead to 21-0 before Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) earned a win by forfeit at 285. Turning the lineup over to 125 pounds, Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) earned the third win by fall in just 2:53 to extend Bloomsburg's lead to 33-0. Andy Schutz (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) earned a 14-1 major decision at 133, before Braden Stahlnecker (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) earned his first collegiate win with a 6-4 decision at 141. Evan Campbell (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) put the finishing touches on the shutout with a 3-1 decision at 149.
 
Against Appalachian State, the Huskies fell down 20-0 on four wins by decision and two wins by major decision. Girard got Bloomsburg on the board at 125 pounds with a 16-0 technical fall win in 4:07. Schutz continued the momentum with a 15-6 major decision at 133, before Appalachian State's Irvin Enriquez, Jr. (9-1) and Gavin Londoff (10-1) earned major decisions at 141 and 149 to seal the victory. Two points were deducted from Bloomsburg's team score at the conclusion of the match due to misconduct.
 
The Huskies return north for their home opener on Thursday (Nov. 16) when they battle the Hoosiers of Indiana at the Nelson Field House. The action is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
