SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies come into the meet with a 1-2 record on the season and are coming off of their first win of the season, a 131-71 victory over visiting Edinboro University last Friday evening. Bloomsburg opened the season on October 20 in West Chester and lost to both the Golden Rams (171-66) and to Division I Lehigh (178-59) in a tri-meet. All told, the Huskies recorded 26 PSAC-qualifying times during the season-opening event.
Against Edinboro, redshirt senior
Nikki Young (Eagleville, Pa./Methacton) posted three victories, including an NCAA "B" cut in the 100-yard breaststroke, to pace the Huskies. Young was a part of the Huskies' 200-yard medley relay team that started the evening with a victory and later captured individual wins in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard breaststroke. Her time of 1:04.13 in the 100-yard breaststroke gave her an NCAA "B" mark and is currently the fourth-fastest time in the country, to date, this year. The result was also the second-fastest time in program history, trailing only her own record of 1:02.32 she established during the 2015-16 season.
Senior
Karly Hursey (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) won both distance events to give her a pair of individual victories on the night while sophomore
Becca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) added a single individual win and a relay victory. Freshman
Kelley McHugh (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) and junior
Sydney Mercer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Millville) also earned first-place finishes.
The Huskies started the night in strong fashion, getting a victory in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:48.81. The team consisted of sophomore
Kiera Wadsworth (Blakeslee, Pa./Ridley), Young, redshirt junior
Marykate Boylan (Edgemont, Pa./Penncrest), and Cubbler.
All told, Bloomsburg collected 26 qualifying times for the PSAC Championships in February.
In the season opener at West Chester, Young, who missed all of last season due to an injury, made a triumphant return to the pool for the Huskies. She earned Bloomsburg's only victory of the night in the 200-yard breaststroke and posted a second-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. Young also was part of the Huskies' 400-yard medley relay team that finished in second place.
