BLOOMSBURG NOTES:
Bloomsburg closes out the 2016-17 regular season on Saturday at Binghamton University. The Huskies are 4-16 overall and 0-6 in the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) standings. Bloomsburg last competed on February 10 at Clarion University and dropped a 27-13 decision to the Golden Eagles.
Bloomsburg has lost four straight and has dropped 14 of its last 15 duals. The lone win during the stretch was a 28-21 victory at Sacred Heart on January 22.
Against the Golden Eagles last Friday night, Bloomsburg got victories from redshirt freshman
Grant Bond (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) (decision) at 141 pounds, senior Kevin Laubach (fall) at 157 pounds, and freshman
Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) (major decision) at 285 pounds. Bond moved to within one victory of hitting double figures in his rookie season as he improved his record to 9-12 on the season. Laubach's fall was his team-leading sixth of the year and improved his record to 11-15. Graeber, meanwhile, evened his record at 12-12 in his rookie campaign.
Redshirt freshman
Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) leads the Huskies with an 18-13 overall record on the season. He has won five of his last seven matches dating back to January 14. Freshman
Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) is still second on the team with a 15-14 record but has lost six straight entering action on Saturday. He has not won since a 12-4 major decision win over Columbia's Donny Donnelly on January 14. Redshirt freshman Matt Noble enters with a 14-11 overall record and is third on the team in victories.
Laubach leads the team in falls with six and has had four of his last five matches result in a pin (3-1). Allard leads in technical falls with two while Graeber leads the Huskies with two major decision victories.
Â
Bloomsburg leads the all-time series against Binghamton, 4-3. The teams have not squared off since February 22, 2014 when the Huskies defeated the Bearcats by a 28-12 final in Vestal, New York.
BINGHAMTON NOTES:
Binghamton enters the contest with an 8-6 overall record and an 8-4 mark in the EIWA. The Bearcats have lost two straight, including a 21-15 loss against the University of Pennsylvania in their most recent action on Saturday, February 11. Binghamton is scheduled to host Buffalo on Friday night.
Junior Steve Schneider is the one to watch for the Bearcats as he enters the weekend with a 28-5 overall record and is ranked 15th in the country, according to the latest InterMat rankings, at 184 pounds. Of his 28 victories, five have come by major decision and three have been by fall.
Of the probable starters for the Bearcats, all but redshirt freshman Jake Einbinder (6-10) at 165 pounds have reached double figures in victories this season. Second to Schneider's 28 wins are sophomore Steve Bulzomi, who is 18-11 at 125 pounds, and redshirt sophomore Connor Calkins, who is 18-9 at 285 pounds.
