DAYÂ FOUR RESULTS
PSAC CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
YORK, Pa. - For the third consecutive year, the Bloomsburg University women's swimming team finished second overall at the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships at the Graham Aquatic Center. The Huskies finished with 1073.5 points and placed second to West Chester, which won its 11th consecutive title with a total of 1817 points.
Sophomore
Sydney Mercer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Millville) had one of the highlights of the night when she broke the school record in the 200-yard backstroke. She placed fourth overall in the event with a time of 2:04.00, besting her own previous record of 2:04.86 she set during her freshman season a year ago.
Also competing in the 200-yard backstroke on Sunday evening were freshman
Kiera Wadsworth (Blakeslee, Pa./Ridley), who finished seventh in the "B" final (15th overall) with a time of 2:09.05, and freshman
Deanna Shuster (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury), who won the "C" final and finished 17th overall with a time of 2:08.14.
The last night of finals started with senior Brooke Gilson and junior
Karly Hursey (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) posting NCAA "B" qualifying times in the 1650-yard freestyle. Gilson placed third overall with a time of 17:13.38 while Hursey followed closely in fifth place, touching the wall in 17:21.94.
In the 100-yard freestyle, freshman Rebecca Cubbler took fourth place with a time of 52.62. Redshirt senior Kaci McIlmoyle won the "B" final in the event with a time of 52.82 while junior
Kate Cossitor (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) was fifth in the "B" final (13th overall), touching the wall in 53.72. In the "C" final, redshirt sophomore Mary Kate Boylan touched first in 53.65 to finish 17th overall. Freshman
Kaitlyn Floyd (Mertztown, Pa./Kutztown) was third in the "C" final, 19th overall, with a time of 53.88.
In the last individual final, junior
Sarah Ritter (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) was the highest finisher for the Huskies as she placed fourth overall in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.87. In the "B" final, junior
Lauren Minford (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) and sophomore
Lina Brouse (Abington, Pa./Upper Dublin) finished second and third (10th and 11th overall) respectively. Sophomore
Kelsey Neff (Elysburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) won the "C" final with a time of 2:27.85 while redshirt junior
Courtney Middleton (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) was fifth in the "C" final (21st overall), touching the wall in 2:31.81.
In the final event of the championships, Boylan, Gilson, McIlmoyle, and Cubbler took second in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:30.84. The time was an NCAA "B" cut.
Several Huskies will head to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the 2017 NCAA Division II Championships for a four-day event. The championships begin on Wednesday, March 8.
