BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Bloomsburg University 800-yard freestyle relay team broke a five-year-old school record on Friday to highlight the Huskies' women's swimming action during day three of competition at the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.

Redshirt senior Kaci McIlmoyle, senior Brooke Gilson, junior Karly Hursey (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll), and freshman Rebecca Cubbler teamed up to finish 19th overall in the event with a time of 7:34.41. Cubbler, participating in her first NCAA Championships, anchored the foursome and posted a time of 1:50.83 to nearly catch Truman State, which finished in the 16th, and final, scoring spot. The leg was the fastest 200-yard freestyle swim in program history, besting Caroline Hodgins' time of 1:51.80 during the 2015 season.

The team itself shattered the program's previous record of 7:37.14 during the 2012 campaign. Ashley Dix, McIlmoyle, Julia DeVincent, and current Huskies' assistant coach, Bridget Hilferty, held the previous mark.

In the only other action of the day for the women, Gilson finished in a tie for 38th place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:03.83. It was Gilson's second individual event of the championships as she earlier posted a time of 10:22.52 in the 1000-yard freestyle on Wednesday to finish in 40th place.

Saturday marks the final day of competition and the Huskies will be a part of two more events. Gilson will swim in the 1650-yard freestyle - an event in which she holds the 22nd-fastest time in the country to date. Additionally, Bloomsburg will compete in the 400-yard freestyle relay event where it is ranked 35th in the country. Morning preliminaries will get underway at 11:30 a.m. (EST) while finals will begin at 6:30 p.m. (EST).
