BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team wrapped up its season at the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
Senior Brooke Gilson posted a season-best time of 17:13.14 in the 1650-yard freestyle to finish 20th overall in the country in the event. She entered the tournament ranked 22nd in the country, but improved her time by nearly three-tenths of a second and improved her ranking by two spots.
Her time of 17:13.14 was just under eight seconds shy of 16th place in the country, which would have given Bloomsburg a point in the team standings.
Gilson had a strong weekend as she finished in the top 40 in the country in three separate individual events. On Wednesday, the senior finished 40th overall in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:22.52 and then tied for 38th in the country in the 500-yard freestyle on Friday with a time of 5:03.83.
Then, in the final women's event of the weekend, the Huskies' 400-yard freestyle relay team finished 30th overall with a time of 3:31.63.
Gilson, freshman
Kaitlyn Floyd (Mertztown, Pa./Kutztown), redshirt senior Kaci McIlmoyle, and freshman Rebecca Cubbler's time was just off the season-best mark, but still advanced the Huskies five spots in the rankings as Bloomsburg entered the event ranked 35th in the country.
