BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Senior Brooke Gilson of the Bloomsburg University women's swimming team began her workload at the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championships on Wednesday by competing in the 1000-yard freestyle. The championships are being held at the CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
Gilson posted a time of 10:22.52 to earn a 40th-place finish in the event. The race was hotly-contested as Gilson was a mere 12 seconds away from finishing 16th and earning a point in the team standings.Â
West Chester's Georgia Wright set an NCAA Division II record by posting a time of 9:48.87 to win the national title in the event.
After a day off on Thursday, Gilson will be back in action on Friday, March 10 as she will compete in the 500-yard freestyle. The Huskies' 800-yard freestyle relay team will also be in action on Friday. Morning trials get underway at 11:30 a.m. EST with the finals slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. EST.
