STORYLINE
The Huskies look to get the winning back on track with a non-league match at Hofstra on Sunday (Jan. 14). Bloomsburg is 1-3 on the year in matches outside of the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL).

LAST MEETING
The Pride defeated Bloomsburg 30-9 last season on Jan. 6, 2017 at the Nelson Field House. After the Pride won the first four matches to take an 18-0 lead, Kevin Laubach Jr. (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) got Bloomsburg on the board with an 11-4 decision over Jake Kaminsky at 157 pounds. Reid Stanley (Fredericksburg, OH/Waynedale) then picked up a win by decision (3-1) over Bobby Fehr at 165 pounds. After another Hofstra win at 174, Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) defeated Michael Oxley at 184 pounds by 3-2 decision. Hofstra picked up two more wins by forfeit (197 pounds) and overtime decision (285 pounds) to pick up the win on the road.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Bloomsburg University wrestling team dropped its Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) contest at No. 25/21 Edinboro 35-3 last Saturday night (Jan. 6). Edinboro started the night with a win by forfeit at 125 pounds, to set up the feature match of the night at 133 pounds between Andy Schutz (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) and No. 13 Korbin Myers. Myers led 2-0 after one and 3-0 after two and was able to hold on for the 4-1 win with riding time. Edinboro used four consecutive major decisions to pull away in the match, winning every bout from 141 pounds up to 174 pounds in bonus points. Nate Hagan defeated Shawn Orem (Pasadena, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) 15-2 at 141, while Peter Pappas won over Evan Campbell (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) 12-2 at 149. Andrew Shomers defeated Kevin Laubach Jr. (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) 8-0, while Fritz Hoehn picked up a 10-1 win over Nate Newberry (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) at 165. To finish out the string of major decisions, Ty Schoffstall won over Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) 14-4 at 174 pounds. Bloomsburg picked up its lone win at 184 pounds on a 3-2 decision win by Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) over Zach Ancewicz. The two men went to the second period scoreless before Allard was able to score an escape in the second and take a 1-0 lead to the third. Allard fought off several shots from Ancewicz in the third to hang on for the win. 
Edinboro won the 197-pound and 285-pound bouts by decision to secure the victory. Aaron Paddock defeated Logan Womelsdorf (Benton, Pa./Northwest Area) 7-6 and No. 9 Billy Miller beat Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) 5-1.
 
Hofstra went 3-0 to sweep its competition at the LIU Post duals back on Sunday (Jan. 7). The Pride defeated Clarion 25-18, beat Columbia 24-12 and finished off the day shutting out American International 56-0. The win over American International was aided by six wins by forfeit. Jacob Martin (125 pounds), Vinny Vespa (133 pounds), and Michael Hughes (285 pounds) each recorded two wins on the day. Five other men recorded wins on the day.
 
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies have four men with double-digit wins on the season in Allard (18-8), Graeber (15-12), Schutz (14-5) and Murphy (10-11). Allard's 18 wins are a team-high mark. In dual matches, Allard and Schutz are each 5-2, Murphy is 2-4 and Graeber is 1-6. Six other men have won at least one match in dual competition. The Huskies have 35 bonus-point wins on the season, with 19 wins by fall, five technical falls and 11 wins by major decision. Allard has a team-high nine bonus-point wins, with five coming by major decision and two each by pin and technical fall. His five major decisions lead the team. Schutz and Womelsdorf lead the team in wins by fall with four, while Allard's two tech falls lead the team in that category.
 
SCOUTING HOFSTRA
The Pride are led by their heavyweight man Michael Hughes, who is 21-2 on the season, a perfect 9-0 in dual matches and ranked No. 9 in the country by Intermat. In dual matches this year, Hughes has yet to surrender a single point to opponents. The other double-digit winner for the Pride is Nezar Haddad, who is 10-10 on the year at 197 pounds. Hughes's 10 wins by fall lead the team. 13 other men have at least one win on the season.
 
UP NEXT
The Huskies return to the Nelson Field House next Sunday (Jan. 21) for the Bloomsburg duals when they host Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and Sacred Heart. The action begins at 10:00 a.m. with VMI taking on Sacred Heart, while Bloomsburg will battle VMI at 12:00 noon and Sacred Heart at 2:00 p.m.
