TROY, N.Y. - The Bloomsburg University wrestling team opened the 2018-19 dual schedule on Saturday afternoon with setbacks to both 17th-ranked Purdue University and Sacred Heart University while competing at the 2018 Journeymen Northeast Duals at Hudson Valley Community College. The Huskies suffered a 35-5 loss to the Boilermakers before falling against the Pioneers by a 24-19 final.

The Huskies picked up a pair of victories against Purdue in the opener as junior Nate Newberry (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) earned a 7-3 decision over Austin Nash at 157 pounds while junior Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) posted a 3-1 victory over Jacob Aven in the heavyweight bout. Newberry and Graeber each collected their fourth victories of the season after opening the year with three wins apiece at the Clarion Open last Saturday.

Against the Pioneers, the Huskies started quickly out of the gates as junior Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) took care of Anthony Petrillo by major decision, 10-0, at 125 pounds followed by redshirt junior Lewis Williams (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) earning a 3-1 decision over Seth Brown at 133 pounds to give Bloomsburg a 7-0 advantage. The win by Girard was his team-leading sixth of the season while Williams earned his fourth of the year with the victory.

The Pioneers earned a fall at 141 pounds to trim the Huskies' lead to 7-6 before freshman Tim Kane (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) nabbed his first collegiate victory with a 5-4 win over Mason Rambarose at 149 to build the advantage to 10-6. However, the Pioneers rattled off three consecutive victories - one by fall - to take an 18-10 lead. Redshirt junior Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) won by decision, 9-3, over Kyle Davis at 184 pounds - his fourth victory of the year - to stop the bleeding but another fall by the Pioneers at 197 ended any thoughts of a Huskies' comeback. Graeber won by forfeit at heavyweight for his second victory of the day to round out the scoring.

Bloomsburg will remain in Troy, New York, on Sunday to compete in the Journeymen Collegiate Classic. Action gets underway at 9:00 a.m.
