STORYLINE
Bloomsburg concludes their regular-season Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) slate with a home match against Clarion on Friday night (Feb. 9). Bloomsburg sits in fifth place currently in the EWL standings, while Clarion is in third place.
 
The Huskies will hit the road on Sunday (Feb. 11) to Binghamton to battle the Bearcats in a non-league contest. Binghamton received one vote in the latest USA Today/National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Coaches Poll.

ALL-TIME SERIES
This will be the 48th all-time meeting between Bloomsburg and Clarion. Clarion leads the all-time series 24-21, and there have also been two ties in the series.
 
This will be the ninth all-time meeting between Bloomsburg and Binghamton. The series is tied 4-4.
 
LAST MEETING
The Golden Eagles defeated Clarion 27-13 at Clarion last season back on Feb. 10, 2017. After falling behind 6-0 through two bouts, Grant Bond (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) got the Huskies on the board at 141 pounds with an 11-4 win by decision. Clarion responded by winning at 149 pounds by decision 4-0, before Kevin Laubach Jr. (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) won by fall over Mac Tanner at 2:33 of the first period to tie the match at 9-9. A Clarion win by fall at 165 pounds put the Golden Eagles up 15-9, before Clarion iced the match by winning the next three bouts on two decisions and a forfeit. Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) finished out the match with an 8-0 major decision at 285 pounds.
 
Binghamton blanked the Huskies 46-0 last season on Feb. 18, 2018.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies defeated Cleveland State 23-15 at the Nelson Field House back on Feb. 2. The win marked the first time the Huskies won have won two matches in the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) since the 2013-14 season when they went 4-2 in the league. The night began at 141 pounds, with Ryan Ford defeating Braden Stahlnecker (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) by decision 12-10, before Bloomsburg rattled off three straight victories to take a 12-3 lead. Kevin Laubach won by decision 5-1 on his Senior Night at 157, before Nate Newberry (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) won by fall at 6:14 at 165 over Georgio Poullas. Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) would gut out a 5-3 sudden victory at 174 pounds after tying the match at three in the dying seconds of the third. After a scoreless first period, Murphy would take a 1-0 lead on an escape in the final minute of the second. After Murphy was able to control Gabe Stark for the first part of the third, Stark escaped to tie the match at one. Stark scored a late takedown inside the final minute, before Murphy reversed him with two seconds on the clock to tie the match at three-apiece and send the bout to extra time. In the overtime, Stark went for a shot but Murphy evaded the attempt and took his own. The sophomore successfully scored early on in the overtime to get the 5-3 win. Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) suffered a tough 2-0 loss to Nick Corba at 184 in a bout between to 20-match winners coming into the contest. John Kelbly would go on to defeat Logan Womelsdorf (Benton, Pa./Northwest Area) by decision 5-3 at 197, making the score 12-9 after six bouts. Three consecutive Bloomsburg wins sealed the deal for the home team, starting with Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) winning by 12-2 major decision over Collin Kelly at 285 pounds. Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) defeated John Martin at 125 pounds by decision 7-3, before redshirt senior Andy Schutz (Exeter, Pa./Wyoming Area) would shut out Andrew Coghill in major decision fashion 8-0. The match ended when Cleveland State's Evan Cheek pinned Shawn Orem (Pasadena, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) in 3:19.
 
The Golden Eagles upset No. 21 Rider 18-17 at home last Friday (Feb. 2) thanks to a pin from freshman Toby Cahill at 285 pounds. After falling behind 7-0 through two bouts, it was No. 5 (Intermat) Brock Zacherl defeating Tyson Dippery by decision 3-1 at 141 pounds to get Clarion within 7-3. Taylor Ortz got the Golden Eagles within one with a 4-2 decision over Gino Fluri at 149 pounds, before Rider rattled off a major decision win at 157 and a win by decision at 165 to go up 14-6 with four bouts remaining. Dom Rigous won by decision 4-0 at 174, before Greg Bulsak squeaked out a 6-5 decision at 184 to make it 14-12 with two bouts remaining. Rider took the win by sudden victory at 197, stretching their lead to five headed to the final bout. Cahill, the recently-named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Wrestler of the Week would earn the upset victory with a pin at 2:30 of the first period to lift the Golden Eagles over the nationally-ranked Broncs.
 
Binghamton defeated Sacred Heart 38-6 last Saturday (Feb. 3) in Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) action. Joe Nelson began the night with a win by forfeit, before a Sacred Heart win at 133 pounds cut the Bearcats lead to 6-3. Joe Russ won by fall in 2:26 at 141, which started a run of seven straight wins for Binghamton. Frankie Garcia won by 4-1 decision at 149, before Dylan Wood picked up an 11-2 major decision at 157. Vincent DePrez won by fall in just 1:24 at 165, before Anthony Lombardo won by major decision 19-5 at 174. No. 13/14 (Intermat/Flowrestling) Steven Schneider won by fall in 2:25, before Alex Melikian won by 6-2 decision at 197. Sacred Heart would get a win by decision at 285 to close the match out. The Bearcats are scheduled to host Northern Illinois Friday night (Feb. 9).
 
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
Allard leads the Huskies with a team-best 22-9 record, including a team-high 9-3 dual record. Schutz is also 9-3 in dual matches, and is second on the team with an 18-6 record. Three other Huskies have double-digit wins in Graeber (17-6), Murphy (13-13) and Wilkins (10-3). Eight others have recorded at least one win in dual matches competition. The Huskies have recorded 51 bonus-point wins as a team, with 26 pins, nine technical falls and 16 major decisions. Schutz leads the team in bonus-point wins with 11, while Allard also has 10. Schutz and Womelsdorf share the team lead in pins with six, while Allard and Schutz lead the team in tech falls with two-apiece. Allard's six major decisions also lead the team.
 
SCOUTING CLARION
The Golden Eagles are led by Zacherl, who is ranked No. 5 at 141 pounds by both Intermat and Flowrestling. Zacherl is a perfect 22-0 on the year, with 15 bonus point wins. He has recorded four wins by fall, five tech falls and six major decisions. Zacherl is one of three men with at least 20 wins on the season along with Ortz and Taylor Cahill who are each 20-8 on the year. Eight other men have registered double-digit wins on the season, including six projected starters.
 
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
Schneider is ranked No. 13 by Intermat and No. 14 by FloWrestling at 184 pounds. The senior is 13-4 on the year, including 9-1 in dual matches. Schneider has recorded one bonus-point win on the season in a win by fall. As a team, Binghamton has recorded 133 bonus-point wins with 57 pins, 24 tech falls and 52 major decisions. Vincent DePrez leads the team in bonus-point wins with 16, with seven pins, three tech falls and six major decisions. He is tied for the team lead in major decisions, while being second on the team in both tech falls and pins.
 
UP NEXT
The Huskies will conclude the regular season with a trip on Interstate 80 to take on Bucknell next Saturday (Feb. 17). The action begins at 7:00 p.m.
