STORYLINE
The Huskies look to get their second win of the season on the road at Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday (Mar. 14).
ALL-TIME SERIES
This will be the first all-time meeting between Bloomsburg and Roberts Wesleyan.
LAST TIME OUT
Bloomsburg dropped a heartbreaker to visiting Saint Anselm 15-14 last Friday (Mar. 9) in their home opener. After Saint Anselm scored the first goal just 1:06 in, the Huskies would retaliate to go up 3-1 and later 4-2 with 16:20 to play in the first half. Saint Anselm would score six in a row to go up 8-4 at the half. Their run continued early in the second half as they scored their seventh in a row to go up 9-4. The two teams traded goals, before Saint Anselm led 12-7 with 16:49 to play in the half.
Erin Boulger (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) (16:05) and
Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) (14:32) scored free position shots, before
Taylor Turner (Corning, N.Y./Corning West) scored unassisted with 9:52 left. The final two goals were 17 seconds apart from
Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) (6:05) with an assist from Turner and then Boulger from Kelleher (5:48) to tie the game at 12. Two goals in 90 seconds put Saint Anselm back up 14-12 with three minutes to go.
Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) would net the hat trick with her third of the game coming on a free position attempt with 2:49 left, before Jaskuta's second of the game from Kelleher knotted the game at 14 with 56 seconds left. Saint Anselm would hold for one final possession and draw a late free position attempt for Meaghan Sheehy. Sheehy buried her hat trick goal with nine seconds to play to give the Hawks the road victory. Rusen and Kelleher each tallied hat tricks in the contest, while Boulger and Jaskuta each scored twice.
Abby Bergman (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley),
Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) and
Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) each tallied one goal in the loss. Bloomsburg out-worked Saint Anselm for ground balls 33-30, with five Huskies collecting four apiece.
Erika Biehl (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) scooped up three in the contest, while four others recorded two each. Boulger and
Lana Paulo (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) each grabbed one ground ball in the game. The Huskies got beat 19-13 on draw controls, with Turner totaling a team-high seven. Bloomsburg totaled 15 clears to Saint Anselm's 12, while also holding Saint Anselm to 1-5 on free position attempts. The Huskies, meanwhile, were 5-7 on free position attempts. The Huskies caused 27 turnovers on the afternoon, with
Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) causing a game-high five. Turner and
Tiffany Diachynsky (Barto, Pa./Boyertown Area) each caused four, while
Delaney Schappert (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor) caused two and eight others created one apiece.
Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) (1-1) took the loss between the pipes, making 15 saves.
Roberts Wesleyan defeated District of Columbia 18-2 back on Sunday (Mar. 11) in East Coast Conference (ECC) action. The Redhawks scored the first six goals of the game, before District of Columbia broke through for one with 23:52 to play in the first half. Roberts Wesleyan scored another four in a row before District of Columbia scored again with 12:53 to play in the half. Roberts Wesleyan would score two more times to take a 13-2 lead to the half. The Redhawks would score five goals in the second half in the win. Emily Tomei and Alyssa Maxwell each netted hat tricks in the win, while Taylor Nathan and Johannah Price each scored twice. Eight other Redhawks each contributed one goal in the win. Emily Knight dished out a team-high four assists to total five points, while Madilynn Walsh totaled two assists and seven others recorded one assist each. The Redhawks out-worked District of Columbia for ground balls 31-14, with Walsh scooping up a game-high six. Tiffany Melendez collected five, Mackenzie Kidder grabbed four, Knight picked up three, five others recorded two and three others picked up one each. Roberts Wesleyan caused 10 turnovers in the win, led by three from Tomei. Kidder also caused two, while five others each caused one in the win. Victoria Greco (5-2) made four saves in the win.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies score 18.00 goals per game, which is sixth in the PSAC while also being fourth in the league in assists per game with 9.00. Bloomsburg also gives up 11.50 goals per game. Kelleher and Turner share the team lead in goals with five, while
Sydney Collins (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), Boulger and Jaskuta each have four on the season. Seven other Huskies have scored goals so far on the season. Kelleher and Collins share the lead in the assist column with five, while three others have dished out two on the season. Kelleher (five G, five A) is the only Husky with double-digit points on the season with 10. Collins is just one shy with nine points on four goals and five assists. The Huskies have won 26 draw controls on the season, paced by a tam-high seven from Turner. Bloomsburg has scooped up 57 total ground balls, the ninth-highest total in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Diachynsky's eight ground balls are the eighth-highest total in the conference, while DiPasquale's seven are tied for ninth. BU is fourth in the PSAC in caused turnovers with 38, led by eight from Diachynsky. Her total is third in the PSAC individually, while Turner's six are tied for fifth. Between the pipes, DiPasquale's 9.5 saves per game average is tied for third in the conference.
SCOUTING ROBERTS WESLEYAN
Roberts Wesleyan scores 11.86 goals per game which is seventh in the ECC, while allowing 12.08 goals per game which is fifth in the league. The Redhawks are led individually by Tomei, whose 15 goals are fifth in the conference. Five others on the team have scored double-digit goals in Kidder (12), Maxwell (11), Megan Burnham (11), Nathan (10) and Price (10). Knight is the team's assist leader with 12 which is fourth in the conference. Seven Redhawks have at least 10 points on the season, led by Tomei (15 G, five A). Her point total is eighth individually in the league. Roberts Wesleyan leads the ECC in ground balls with 173, led by a conference-best 21 by Walsh. Kidder's 18 are third in the conference, while Roberts Wesleyan has numerous others in the top 10 in the category. The Redhawks are second in the league in draw controls with 92 total, led by a team-high 26 from Tomei that is fourth in the league. The Redhawks also lead the ECC in caused turnovers with 51, with Melendez in the team lead with seven. Her total is tied for sixth. Greco leads the conference in saves with 91, while being third in save percentage at 51.1 percent. Her five wins are also tied for the conference lead.
