STORYLINE
The Huskies will host No. 21 Mercyhurst for their opening game in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Mercyhurst is ranked No. 21 in the most recent Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
This will be the 23rd all-time meeting between Bloomsburg and Mercyhurst. Mercyhurst holds a 12-10 series lead.
 
LAST MEETING
The Lakers defeated the Huskies 13-5 last season at Mercyhurst back on Apr. 22, 2017. Mercyhurst scored the first 10 goals of the game and blanked the Huskies for the first half. Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield), Brigid Kyne (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Lindsey Coyle (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) scored the first three goals of the second half for Bloomsburg, before Mercyhurst would score the next three. Hannah Jaskuta (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) would score the last two goals of the game for the Huskies.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Bloomsburg used a late scoring effort and some big saves in the cage to come from behind and stun Roberts Wesleyan 14-13 in double overtime on Wednesday (Mar. 14). Roberts Wesleyan opened the scoring just 1:48 into the game, before Bloomsburg would score the next six goals. Kirsten Wozniak (Oradell, N.J./River Dell Regional), Anna Dempsey (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) and two goals each from Gormley and Grace Kelleher (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) put the Huskies out in front 6-1 with 11 minutes to play in the first half. Roberts Wesleyan scored the next three goals to cut the lead to 6-4, before the final goal of the first half was scored by Coyle with less than four minutes to play. Bloomsburg led 7-4 at the half. Roberts Wesleyan controlled the first 20 minutes of the first half, out-scoring the Huskies 7-2 in that span to take an 11-9 lead. Two more Redhawks goals stretched their lead to 13-9 with 7:25 to play. The Huskies scored four unanswered goals in the final six minutes to send the game to overtime tied at 13. The teams played three minutes of extra time with Angela DiPasquale (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) coming up with four big saves in the period, including one on a free position shot. The first two minutes of the second overtime were calm, until Kelleher got a chance with 56 seconds left and cashed it home.
 
Bloomsburg out-shot Roberts Wesleyan 33-28 in the contest, including 29-25 in shots on goal. Kelleher's five goals were a game-high, while Gormley netted four in the win. Five other Huskies scored in the win. Boulger and Collins each dished out two assists, while Kelleher and Dempsey each had one. Bloomsburg collected 29 ground balls as a team, with Tracy Rusen (Martinsville, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) and Abby Nocito (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) scooping up four each. Seven different Huskies grabbed two each, while another seven players registered one ground ball apiece. The Huskies caused six turnovers in the win, with six different players contributing. BU also won 14 draw controls in the game, with Megan Smith (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Township) grabbing a game-high five. Dempsey collected three on the day, while Gormley and Turner each recorded two and Rusen and Boulger each registered one. DiPasquale (2-1) earned her second win in the cage by coming up big in the extra period, totaling 12 saves.
 
Then No. 17 Mercyhurst dropped their last contest to then No. 8 Limestone 14-1 back on Saturday (Mar. 10). Limestone led 8-1 at the half after scoring eight in a row. They shut out the Lakers in the second half 6-0. Mercyhurst's lone goal was scored by Grace Lawson off an assist from Kristin Anderson. Mercyhurst collected 15 ground balls in the loss, led by three each from Kira Kolb and Cassandra Ellis. Diana Schmitt and Raelyn Tiberio each scooped up two, while five others recorded one each. Seven different Lakers caused a turnover in the contest, while the Lakers won seven draw controls in the game. Torie Sullivan led the team with three, while Anderson had two and Kolb and Angelina Simon each had one. Rebecca Whitehead (0-1) took the loss between the pipes, making two saves in 17 and a half minutes. Tiberio played the last 42 and a half minutes in the cage, making 11 saves.
 
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
The Huskies score 16.67 goals per game which is seventh in the PSAC, while allowing 11.55 goals per game. Off of her recent five-goal performance, Kelleher is the team's leading scorer with 10 goals. Gormley is second on the steam with seven goals, while Turner has six. Three others have at least four goals on the year. Collins's team-high seven assists are seventh in the conference, while Kelleher is second on the team with six. Dempsey also has three assists on the year, while four others have two apiece. Kelleher and Collins are the only Huskies to record double-digit points so far on the season. Kelleher's 16 (10 G, six A) lead the team, while Collins is second on the team with 11 on four goals and seven assists. Turner's six goals and two assists are good for eight points, while Cailyn Gormley (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) has seven goals for seven points.  The Huskies have scooped up 86 ground balls as a team and are led by nine each from Dianchynsky, Nocito and DiPasquale. Turner is second on the team with eight. The Huskies are seventh in the conference in caused turnovers with 44, led by Diachynsky's nine which is fourth in the league. Diachynsky is also tied for the conference lead in caused turnovers per game with a mark of 3.0. BU has won 40 draw controls on the season, led by 10 from Smith. In the cage, DiPasquale's 31 saves are the seventh-highest total in the conference, and she has a .463 save percentage in 187:04 in cage.
 
SCOUTING MERCYHURST
The Lakers score 7.33 goals per game, while allowing 14.33 goals per game. Anderson leads the team with six goals, while Simon also has five. Taylor Izzo leads the Lakers with six assists, while Anderson is second on the team with two. Anderson (6 G, 2 A) and Izzo (2 G, 6 A) are tied for the team lead in points with eight. Simon also has five goals for five points on the season. The Lakers have collected 51 ground balls on the season, led by a team-high 10 from Kolb. Anderson also has nine on the season, while Ellis is third on the team with four. Mercyhurst has caused 29 turnovers on the season, with Kolb leading the way with seven. Three other Lakers have caused three turnovers apiece on the year. The Lakers have won 31 draw controls on the season, led by Anderson's team-high 14. Mercyhurst has used three goalies this season, with Abby Miller having played 120 minutes between the pipes so far this season. She owns a goals against average (GAA) of 14.50 and has made 18 saves for a .383 save percentage. Whitehead and Tiberio have also played in the cage so far this season.
