CHANDLER, Ariz. - The Bloomsburg University field hockey team dropped three spots and is now ranked eighth in the country according to the latest Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II national coaches poll released on Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies, who were tied for fifth last week, received 62 total points in this week's rankings.
East Stroudsburg took over the top spot in the poll, earning 12 of the 21 first-place votes. Stonehill remained second while West Chester climbed one spot to third. Last week's top-ranked team, Shippensburg, dropped to fourth while Millersville rounded out the top five.
Bloomsburg is 3-1 overall but suffered its first loss of the season by a 2-1 final against Kutztown last Wednesday. Sophomore
Cheyenne Ott (Mount Bethel, Pa./Bangor) scored the lone Huskies' goal in the loss - her first goal of the season and the second of her career. Bloomsburg opened the season with a 3-2 shootout victory over Lindenwood on September 1 and then posted back-to-back shutout wins at Bellarmine on September 3 and at Seton Hill on September 15. In the 4-0 win over the Griffins, junior
Tesa Hoffman (Freeburg, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) recorded her first collegiate hat trick and also added an assist. She was named the PSAC Player of the Week for her efforts - the first weekly award of her career. Freshman
Kristen Robinson (Annville, Pa./Palmyra Area) notched her first collegiate goal in the win.
Hoffman entered the season with two goals and one assist for five points in her first 38 collegiate games but leads the team in scoring this season with four goals and three assists for 11 points through only four games in 2018. She ranks second in the PSAC in points per game (2.75) and is tied for third in both goals (4) and assists (3). Senior
Erica Krebs (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) is also off to a hot start with three goals and two assists for eight points. Krebs is tied for sixth in the league in points per game (2.00). Junior
Ali McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech), sophomores Ott and
Alyssa Broadt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg), and freshmen Robinson and
Madilyn McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech) have also scored goals this season. Sophomore
Hannah Barnard (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) has played every minute in goal and is 3-1 with a 0.93 goals against average and an .833 save percentage. She leads the conference in save percentage, ranks fourth in goals against average, and is tied for the league lead in shutouts with two.
Bloomsburg is at fifth-ranked Millersville on Tuesday night and then will be back at Steph Pettit Stadium on Saturday, September 29 against Slippery Rock for a non-conference contest. Start time is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
