SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
- Bloomsburg will be looking to put a winning streak together as the Huskies are coming off of a 21-14 victory over Hofstra University at the Nelson Field House last Friday. It was Bloomsburg's first dual victory of the season. Freshman
Aaron Coleman (Iselin, N.J./John F. Kennedy Memorial) jumpstarted the Huskies' scoring with a decision at 141 pounds. Redshirt junior
Grant Bond (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) followed with a forfeit win at 149 pounds while junior
Nate Newberry (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville), redshirt sophomore
Anthony Vetrano (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North), redshirt junior
Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico), and junior
Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) also earned victories on the night.
- Allard leads the team with a 16-9 overall record and a team-high five major decisions. Following Allard's win against Hofstra's Trey Rogers last Friday, the redshirt junior has won 12 of his last 15 matches after starting the year with a 4-6 mark. Prior to his victory last Friday, Allard took seventh at the 56th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships on December 29 and 30. Junior
Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) sports a record of 12-8 on the season and also competed at the Midlands Championships in the 125-pound bracket. Bond is 10-4 and has notched a team-high three pins while Newberry is 9-9 overall and earned his 20th career victory last Friday against Hofstra's Chris Mauriello.
- The Huskies earned a pair of individual titles at the PSAC Championships on December 8, as Bond and Newberry won the individual titles at 149 and 157, respectively. They were the first two PSAC individual champions since 2013 when
Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) (174),
Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) (197), and
Justin Grant (Easton/Easton) (285) claimed titles. Bond was named the EWL Athlete of the Week after finishing 4-0 with each of his victories (three falls, one technical fall) coming with bonus points.
SCOUTING EDINBORO
- The Fighting Scots enter Friday's match with Bloomsburg with a 1-3 overall record in dual matches this season. Edinboro most recently wrapped up action in the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tennessee on January 2. Junior Dylan Reynolds placed sixth place for the Fighting Scots, who finished 18th as a team. After starting the season with a win over The Citadel, Edinboro has dropped three straight to Wyoming, Tennessee-Chattanooga and Kent State.
- Reynolds (197) has a team-high 21 wins this season while redshirt freshman Jacob Oliver is 19-4. Oliver polished off the 2018 calendar year with dual match victories over Tennessee-Chattanooga and Kent State and was named EWL Wrestler of the Week for his efforts. First-year head coach Matt Hill has also gotten help from returning starters Ancewicz and Fritz Hoehn this season. Ancewicz is 14-10 at 184 pounds while Hoehn is 5-4 at 165 pounds. Jon Spaulding, who filled in at 285 pounds in several matches last year, is 14-11 in his first season as a starter for the Fighting Scots.
- The Fighting Scots matched Bloomsburg's two individual titles at the PSAC Championships with a pair of their own on December 8, as Jacob Oliver and Zach Ancewicz took home first place at 174 and 184 pounds, respectively.
SCOUTING CLARION
- The Golden Eagles enter Sunday's dual with a 3-4 overall record and, most recently, took care of LIU Post by a 39-7 final on Wednesday night. The victory snapped a two-match losing skid as Clarion suffered losses against Pittsburgh and Buffalo on December 21 and 22, respectively.
- Junior Jack Peura (165) leads the Golden Eagles with a 14-6 overall record but has missed each of the last three duals. Six of his victories (three technical falls, two major decisions, one fall) have come with bonus points. Redshirt senior Brock Zacherl (149), freshman Tyshawn White (125), and sophomore Shae Bloom (184) have each registered 13 wins on the year. Zacherl has not competed since November 30 while White has not seen action since December 8. Bloom, meanwhile, missed the dual against LIU Post on Wednesday night.
- Four others have reached the double-digit win plateau on the season - sophomore Ty Bagoly (184), redshirt senior Evan Delong (165), freshman Seth Koleno (133), and sophomore Max Wohlabaugh (174). All four are expected to start for the Golden Eagles on Sunday afternoon.
