ALL-TIME SERIES
• Bloomsburg leads the all-time series with Cleveland State 23-14-3, including a 23-15 win over the Vikings at home a season ago. Cleveland State holds a 3-2 advantage over the last five seasons, with Bloomsburg's last road victory in the series coming on February 2, 2013.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
• The Huskies saw their two-match winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon as it suffered a 22-15 setback at Clarion University in an Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) dual. The match came down to the heavyweight bout as the Huskies entered the final match of the day trailing by one point, but a Clarion win via pinfall in the final period of the night would give the Golden Eagles the victory. Juniors
Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) and redshirt junior
Lewis Williams (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) got the night started for Bloomsburg with victories at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively, while
Grant Bond (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) (149 lbs.),
Nate Newberry (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) (157 lbs.), and
Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) (184 lbs.) also earned victories for the Huskies.
• Bloomsburg's signature win thus far came on January 11, when the Huskies defeated Edinboro 21-19 at the Nelson Field House. The victory snapped a five-match losing skid against the Fighting Scots as Bloomsburg picked up its first victory against its EWL rival since January 25, 2013, when it earned a 19-18 home win. Pins from Girard and Bond, and a decision victory for Williams vaulted the Huskies to an early lead in the match, while Newberry and Allard locked up the Bloomsburg victory with wins at 157 and 184 pounds, respectively.
• Allard is ranked No. 28 in the initial NCAA Division I Wrestling Coaches Rankings, which was released on January 24. The redshirt junior leads the team with an 18-9 overall record and a team-high five major decisions, and has won 14 of his last 17 matches after starting the year with a 4-6 mark. He completed 2018 on a high note as well, placing seventh at the 56th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships on December 29 and 30. Allard is the first Bloomsburg wrestler to be nationally ranked since the 2014 season.
• Girard sports a record of 14-8 on the season, while Bond is 12-4 and has notched a team-high four pins. Newberry is 11-9 overall this season, and has won six of his last seven matches. Williams and
Bruce Graeber (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy)Â have each notched eight victories this season, while
Anthony Vetrano (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North)Â and
Alex Carida (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown)Â have tallied seven victories.
SCOUTING CLEVELAND STATE
- The Vikings enter Sunday's match at 3-7, 0-3 in the EWL after a 24-13 loss to Edinboro on January 18. Cleveland State won three of the first five weight classes to open up a 13-7 lead through five bouts, but the Fighting Scots came back by winning each of the final five weight classes to come out on top. Junior Chris Morrow and true freshman Ben Smith each suffered a three-point loss via decision at 184 and 197 pounds, respectively. Armando Torres (133 lbs.), Brady Barnett (149 lbs.), and Nico O'Dor (157 lbs.) were all victorious for the Vikings.
• Torres collected his team-leading 25th win of the season against Edinboro. The redshirt senior has five falls on the season, and three technical falls. O'Dor is 20-12 with three falls and two major decisions, while Barnett and Cameron Lathem are tied for the team-lead in pins this season with six. Barnett's 14 wins are good for third on the team this season.
• O'Dor and Smith took first place in the 157 and 197 pound weight classes at the Lock Haven Classic on December 29. In addition, Torres (133 lbs.) and Dimitri Williams (174) placed second for the Vikings, while Ryan Ford went 4-1 at 165 pounds.
