EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team will be back in the pool on Saturday afternoon as it heads to East Stroudsburg University for a dual meet against the Warriors. Start time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. from the Koehler Fieldhouse Pool.
The Huskies enter the dual with a 5-2 overall record on the season. Bloomsburg saw its five-meet winning streak come to an end last Saturday with a 141-111 loss at Division I Penn State University.
Bloomsburg posted 16 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) marks against the Nittany Lions with sophomore
Kelley McHugh (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) leading the way by hitting the conference standard three different times. Senior
Samantha Carpenter (Sunbury, Pa./Shamokin Area), junior
Becca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford), and sophomores
Kristen Bane (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) and
Lindsay Mooney (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) each had two PSAC marks. Also earning conference qualifying times were junior
Kiera Wadsworth (Blakeslee, Pa./Ridley), freshman
Emily Smith (Youngwood, Pa./Hempfield), senior
Sammie Carroll (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee), senior
Marykate Boylan (Edgemont, Pa./Penncrest), and senior
Sydney Mercer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Millville).
After Penn State won the opening nine events of the morning, the Nittany Lions swam the final handful of events as exhibitions and Bloomsburg posted wins in the final five swims to cut into the deficit. The Huskies' first victory came in the 200-yard breaststroke where Carpenter posted a time of 2:30.27 with Bane coming in second with a mark of 2:34.63. Cubbler followed with a win in the 500-yard freestyle as she touched the wall in 5:18.49. Mooney won the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.22 while McHugh took home the last individual event with a win in the 200-yard individual medley after posting a time of 2:15.66. Shannon Ball (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff), Cubbler, and Mooney combined for a time of 1:39.05 to claim the victory.
East Stroudsburg enters with a 2-5 overall record and has posted victories in each of its last two meets. Most recently, the Warriors took care of Millersville by a 132-61 margin on Saturday, January 12.
The Huskies will conclude the regular season on Friday, February 1, and Saturday, February 2, when they head to Indiana University of Pennsylvania to compete in the John A. Pidgeon Memorial Invitational.
