COMPLETE RESULTS
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team posted two pool records in the opening two events and never looked back as it went on to defeat East Stroudsburg University, 115-70, on Saturday afternoon at the Koehler Fieldhouse Pool. The Huskies improved to 6-2 overall in dual meets this season while the Warriors dropped to 2-6 on the year.
Bloomsburg had 17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) marks on the afternoon with two each from senior
Sydney Mercer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Millville), senior
Marykate Boylan (Edgemont, Pa./Penncrest), junior
Becca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford), junior
Shannon Ball (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff), junior
Kiera Wadsworth (Blakeslee, Pa./Ridley), sophomore
Lindsay Mooney (Salisbury, Md./Parkside), and freshman
Liz Jackson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley). Sophomore
Kelley McHugh (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower), sophomore
Chelsea Ackerson (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert), and freshman
Emily Smith (Youngwood, Pa./Hempfield) each had one PSAC qualifying swim.
The Huskies posted Koehler Fieldhouse Pool records in both in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard individual medley as they raced out to a huge early lead on the Warriors. Bloomsburg's quartet of Wadsworth, senior
Samantha Carpenter (Sunbury, Pa./Shamokin Area), Mooney, and Boylan posted the pool-record time of 1:49.12 to earn the victory in the 200-yard medley relay. McHugh followed with a pool record in the 400-yard individual medley as she touched the wall in 4:41.89 - nearly seven seconds faster than Mercer (4:48.51) who finished second.
Bloomsburg went on to post victories in the next seven events to seal the victory. Ackerson started with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:08.53 which was followed by a 1-2-3 Huskies' finish in the 200-yard freestyle. Cubbler won with a time of 1:57.60 with Mercer (2:01.16) touching second and Jackson (2:01.23) placing third.
Boylan won her first of two events on the day with a time of 24.53 in the 50-yard freestyle with Ball also posting a PSAC mark in the event with a time of 25.63 to finish third. Wadsworth posted a victory in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:14.21 with Mooney taking second with a PSAC mark of 2:16.33. Smith then won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:17.89 followed by Boylan's second win of the day in the 100-yard freestyle after touching the wall in 53.96. Ball (55.30), Mooney (55.93), and Jackson (56.28) finished second through fourth with each posting PSAC marks.
Wadsworth finished Bloomsburg's streak of wins with a time of 2:10.38 in the 200-yard backstroke. Cubbler was second with a PSAC mark of 2:12.94.
McHugh swam the fastest time in the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.78) as did sophomore
Kristen Bane (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.39) but both competed as exhibitions.
Finally in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Huskies' team of Jackson, freshman
Julie Marchioni (Reynoldsville, Pa./DuBois Area), Ball, and Cubbler took second with a time of 1:44.11.
The Huskies will conclude the regular season on Friday, February 1, and Saturday, February 2, when they head to Indiana University of Pennsylvania to compete in the John A. Pidgeon Memorial Invitational.
