SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
- Bloomsburg looks to bounce back after a 36-6 loss to 19th-ranked Lock Haven on December 16. Juniors
Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) (125) and
Trevor Allard (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) (184) were victorious for the Huskies who dropped to 0-4 overall and 0-2 against Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) opponents this season.
- Allard leads the team with a 15-9 overall record and a team-high five major decisions. Allard is coming off of a hard-fought seventh-place finish at the 56th annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships last weekend. After losing his first bout of the tournament, Allard won five matches in the consolation bracket to take seventh. He improved to 60-38 in his career. Girard sports a record of 12-9 on the season and also competed at the Midlands last weekend. Bond is 9-4 and has notched a team-high three pins. Newberry and junior
Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) each have eight wins this season.
- The Huskies earned a pair of individual titles at the PSAC Championships on December 8, as redshirt junior
Grant Bond (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) and junior Mike Newberrry won the individual titles at 149 and 157, respectively. They were the first two PSAC individual champions since 2013 when
Mike Dessino (Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) (174),
Richard Perry (Meriden, CT/Middletown) (197), and
Justin Grant (Easton/Easton) (285) claimed titles. Bond was named the EWL Athlete of the Week after finishing 4-0 with each of his victories (three falls, one technical fall) coming with bonus points.
SCOUTING HOFSTRA
- Hofstra enters Friday's match with Bloomsburg at 1-2 on the young season after the Pride split a pair of matches with VMI and Northern Colorado on December 9. Hofstra was led by sophomores Garrett Lambert (141) and Chris Mauriello (157) and freshman Dylan Ryder (125) who all posted 2-0 marks on the day. Earlier in the month, Ryder and junior Sage Heller (174) both went 3-2 to lead Hofstra to a 29th place finish at the Cliff Keen-Las Vegas Invitational. All three of Heller's victories came via pinfall, while Ryder advanced to the second consolation round of eight on the second day.
- Heller and redshirt senior Nezar Haddad (197) anchor a returning class that led the Pride to a 10-10 record in duals a season ago. Haddad is 5-5 on the season while Heller enters Friday's match with an 8-7 record and a team-high five falls. Joining Ryder as new faces in the Hofstra starting lineup this season are redshirt freshman Trent Olson (133) and freshman Trey Rogers (184). Ryder has a team-high 10 wins for the Pride this season, while Rogers is 8-10 entering Friday's dual. Olson, a transfer from the University of Wyoming, is 3-9 on the season.
