STORYLINE
The Bloomsburg University field hockey team looks to get back in the win column as it heads to North Carolina for its final two non-conference games of the 2019 regular season. The Huskies will tangle with Queens on Friday afternoon in Charlotte and then remain in Charlotte to take on Limestone on Sunday morning. Bloomsburg has dropped two straight to a pair of nationally-ranked foes entering the weekend.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Bloomsburg is a perfect 3-0 lifetime against Queens but is just 1-2 lifetime against Limestone. Last season, the Huskies defeated Queens by a 4-0 final at Steph Pettit Stadium as Bloomsburg got goals from
Foto Tsioles (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West),
Callie Edwards (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West),
Sydney Rimmer (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), and
Erica Krebs (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia) in the victory. Meanwhile, Bloomsburg and Limestone have not met since October 2, 2015, when the Saints knocked off the Huskies by a 2-1 final at Steph Pettit Stadium.
SCOUTING BLOOMSBURG
Bloomsburg enters the weekend with a 2-6 overall record and a 0-2 mark in the PSAC. The Huskies have dropped two straight including a 3-2 overtime loss to fifth-ranked Kutztown on Wednesday afternoon - the fourth nationally-ranked opponent Bloomsburg has squared off against this season. Sophomores
Callie Edwards (Swoyersville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and
Foto Tsioles (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) gave the Huskies a 2-0 advantage before the Golden Bears scored the final three goals of the game to win. The goal was the first of the season for Edwards while Tsioles continues to lead the team in scoring with five goals and an assist for 11 points. Junior
Cheyenne Ott (Mount Bethel, Pa./Bangor) is second on the team with two goals and an assist for five points while sophomore
Madilyn McKay (Dover, Del./Polytech) has two goals for four points. In goal, freshman
Abby Shaffer (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) has started each of the last seven games. She is 2-5 with a 2.70 goals against average and a .702 save percentage. She is third in the league in saves per game (5.71). Junior
Hannah Barnard (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) has seen action in four games and is 0-1 with a 1.64 goals against average and a .727 save percentage.
SCOUTING QUEENS
The Royals are 5-3 overall on the season but are coming off of a 4-3 loss against Bellarmine last Sunday, September 29. Queens is 1-1 on the year against teams from the PSAC as it opened the season with a 5-0 win over Mercyhurst before dropping a 3-1 decision to then-#1 Shippensburg the following afternoon. Mazvita Mtisi leads Queens with five goals and three assists for 13 points on the season while Hanna Nechay is also in double figures with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Eight other players have scored at least five points on the year. Avian Thompson has played a majority of the minutes in goal for the Royals and is 4-3 with a 2.91 goals against average and a .674 save percentage.
SCOUTING LIMESTONE
The Saints are also 5-3 on the year and are coming off of a 5-4 loss against Coker last Saturday, September 28. The Saints are scheduled to play against Mount Olive on Friday before their game against Bloomsburg on Sunday. Kelly Diplock leads the team in scoring with three goals and five assists for 11 points while Keaghan Keracher is also in double digits with four goals and two assists for 10 points on the season. Daisy Ruhle has seen most of the time in net and is 4-1 with a 2.07 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.
UP NEXT
Bloomsburg returns home on Tuesday, October 8, to entertain West Chester in a conference matchup at Steph Pettit Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m. The game will also serve as Faculty Appreciation Day for the Huskies.
