BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Senior
Becca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) and sophomore
Carlie Owens (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) each won three events on Saturday as the Bloomsburg University women's swimming team downed visiting Gannon University, 131-74, at the Nelson Field House Pool. The Huskies have now won three straight duals to improve to 3-2 on the season while the Golden Knights dropped to 1-2 overall.
The Huskies finished with 15 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying swims on Saturday with senior
Kiera Wadsworth (Blakeslee, Pa./Ridley), junior
Chelsea Ackerson (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert), and junior
Lindsay Mooney (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) joining Owens and Cubbler as two-time qualifiers. Sophomore
Liz Jackson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) and a quartet of freshmen -
Jenna Park (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal),
Courtney Hubric (Mohnton, PA/Governor Mifflin),
Alicia Lehman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks), and
Anna Sugra (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) - all qualified in one event during the meet.
Cubbler and Owens each won two individual events and were part of a relay-winning foursome to lead the way for Bloomsburg. Wadsworth and Hubric had one individual win and one relay win on the afternoon while Park was a member of both relay-winning teams. Mooney and Jackson were also part of a relay-winning foursome on Saturday.
A three-time All-American, Cubbler dominated the distance events as she won both the 500-yard freestyle (5:11.53) and the 1000-yard freestyle (10:42.29). Both swims were season-bests and are currently the top times in the conference this season. Owens, meanwhile, continued her strong start to the campaign by winning both 200-yard individual medley (2:14.90) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.62). Her time in the 200-yard breaststroke was her best mark of the season and is third in the PSAC to date.
Wadsworth earned her victory in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.89) while Hubric was the quickest to the wall in the 100-yard freestyle (55:03). Wadsworth's time was her best of the year and is third in the PSAC while Hubric was just shy of her personal best but still holds the fifth-best mark in the conference this season (54.49).
The Huskies sandwiched the individual events with victories in both the 400-yard medley relay (4:00.33) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:38.30). The 400-yard medley relay team, consisting of Wadsworth, Owens, Mooney, and Park, won by more than 10 seconds over Gannon's "A" foursome while the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Park, Jackson, Hubric, and Cubbler, won by more than seven seconds over the Huskies' "B" team which was comprised of Lehman, redshirt sophomore
Sarah Campion (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville), freshman
Grace Beierschmitt (Dover, PA/Dover), and senior
Shannon Ball (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff).
Bloomsburg will return to the water next Friday, November 8, when it hosts Clarion University at the Nelson Field House Pool with action beginning at 6:00 p.m.
