COMPLETE SATURDAY RESULTS

YORK, Pa. - The Bloomsburg University women's swimming team concluded the 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Swimming Championships with a third-place finish after another solid day of competition on Saturday at the Graham Aquatic Center.

Bloomsburg finished with 1078 points in the team standings trailing only West Chester, which won its 13th straight conference title with 1913 points, and IUP which finished with 1175 points. The third-place result snapped the Huskies' string of four consecutive second-place finishes.

Things started well for the Huskies as all five of their swimmers competing in the 1650-yard freestyle scored. Junior Becca Cubbler (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) was the top finisher as she placed fourth overall with a time of 17:16.29 - an NCAA "B" cut. Her season-best time of 17:08.71 is currently ranked 17th in the country. Sophomore Chelsea Ackerson (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) posted the fastest time of the morning finals and her mark of 17:38.78 held up for an eighth-place finish in the event and a spot on the podium. Sophomore Amelia Besterman (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) finished 16th with a time of 18:24.71, senior Abby Kling (York, Pa./Spring Grove) was 18th with a time of 18:28.57, and freshman Emily Smith (Youngwood, Pa./Hempfield) took 24th with a time of 18:48.90.

In the 100-yard freestyle, sophomore Lindsay Mooney (Salisbury, Md./Parkside) posted a personal-best time of 51.70 to place third overall. It was an NCAA "B" mark and missed the school record by just over one-tenth of a second. Senior Marykate Boylan (Edgemont, Pa./Penncrest) took sixth with a time of 52.36 while junior Shannon Ball (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) placed fourth in the "B" final - 12th overall - with a time of 53.37.

Sophomore Kelley McHugh (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) was the Huskies' top finisher in the 200-yard backstroke as she placed fourth with a personal-best time of 2:04.22. Senior Sydney Mercer (Bloomsburg, Pa./Millville) was right behind, touching the wall in 2:04.96 to finish fifth overall. Junior Kiera Wadsworth (Blakeslee, Pa./Ridley) was second in the "B" final - 10th overall - with a time of 2:06.58 while junior Deanna Shuster (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) was third in the "C" final with a time of 2:10.02.

Senior Samantha Carpenter (Sunbury, Pa./Shamokin Area) and sophomore Kristen Bane (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) each scored in the 200-yard breaststroke. Carpenter was third in the "B" final - 11th overall - with a time of 2:24.21 while Bane was fifth in the "B" final with a time of 2:27.46.

In the final event of the meet, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Mooney, Ball, Boylan, and Cubbler combined for a time of 3:28.10 to earn a second-place finish.

While the meet concludes the season for the Huskies, Cubbler is expected to head to the NCAA Division II National Championships from March 13 through March 16 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
